Ancient Greenland was actually green!

The oldest ever recovered DNA samples have been collected from under more than a mile of Greenland ice, and their analysis suggests the island was much warmer during the last Ice Age than previously thought. The DNA is proof that sometime between 450,000 and 800,000 years ago, much of Greenland was especially green and covered in a boreal forest that was home to alder, spruce and pine trees, as well as insects such as butterflies and beetles.

"climate changes"

Since the earth at many times previous to the common era was much warmer and the earth survived, then adding a little heat to today's average temperature should mean that...uh...er... let me think (puts head in hands and tries to cogitate) mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm....Oh yeah, it means a little extra heat won't kill us or the planet.

Actually, that would have been several ice ages ago.

“Yeah, and Al Gore was once actually skinny.”

Yeah, but he has always been stupid, imbecilic, retarded.

And his “civil rights activism” included carrying a sandwich out to his Nanny in his U.S. Senator daddy’s car when they travelled between Tennessee and D.C., stopping to eat at resturants where the signs said, “no colored allowed”

I have seen Greenland from 40,000 ft or so numerous times. In the winter it is completely covered by a white blanket of snow and ice. In summer it surprised me the first time to see a lot of black peaks poking up above the white blanket. And icebergs being spawned by the glaciers are a dramatic sight - large enough to photograph clearly through the window of the plane.

“You know, one of those endless random mutations over a long, long time and those tree roots became fins, then feet...etc....it could happen!”

Wow, was the Garden of Eden located on Greenland? Maybe we have had some extraordinary continental drift, and Greenland was disgorged from what is now the Mediterranean. I know, I know, the Garden was in that area bordered by the Tigris and the Euphrates.

That’s why the flash-frozen wooly mammoth discovered by the Russians under the Arctic ice several years ago still had the remains of flowers and grass in its stomach. They never have figured out how such a large animal could have frozen so solidly so quickly.

I always thought it showed that the primates had discovered the art of freeze drying their meat.

The tv guy with the leather man bag visited Greenland to learn about the vikings there.

There is very conclusive evidence that for hundreds of years there were thriving colonies of vikings on Greenland.

The ice age came and the colonies withered andfinally died.

The present alleged warming is actually a reversion to normal.

There’s plenty of viking evidence in canada too. I read somewhere that they think the vikings doomed themselves by stubbornly adhering to european farming practices. Sheep and pigs, etc, and horses for travel. These aren’t the best for arctic like winters. I’ve often wondered why the reindeer herding people from extreme northern scandinavia never colonized canada. Reindeer would’ve thrived there.

Viking lived in a GREEN Greenland for about 500 years.
So well documented that even PBS had a segment on it on their
“Secrets of The Dead” series.

......Reindeer would’ve thrived there.....

It turns put they would not. here is a very good and funny reason.

I recently visited Alaska where a prominent tourist menu item is reindeer sausage. It is pretty much ordinary sausage with about 5% reindeer meat.

The greal Alaska reindeer raising venture failed. They cannot raise domesticated reindeer in Alaska because.......

the females runoff with caribou males. The herds are depleted and gone before they can be harvested and raise younguns.

Lots of sites give some Greenland history. One site is the American Heritage dictionary:

“WORD HISTORY How did a glacier-covered island get the name Greenland? In Norse legends written in the 12th century and later, it is told that Eric the Red explored the southeast and southwest coasts of Greenland in A.D. 983-986 and gave the country its name because people would be more likely to go there if it had an attractive name. Greenland was warmer in the tenth century than it is now. There were many islands teeming with birds off its western coast; the sea was excellent for fishing; and the coast of Greenland itself had many fjords where anchorage was good. At the head of the fjords there were enormous meadows full of grass, willows, junipers, birch, and wild berries. Thus Greenland actually deserved its name. Another attraction of Greenland was that Iceland and northwestern Europe, including England, had a grievous year of famine in 976, and people were hungry for food as well as land.”

Another site covers the fact that Greenland settlements of Europeans were abandoned about 1400, during the Little Ice Age. It is still colder in Greenland now than when Eric the Red was there.

From the Smithsonian Institute,

http://www.mnh.si.edu/vikings/voyage/subset/greenland/environment.html

“Studies of environmental conditions, climate, and their interactions have produced important new information relevant to Norse extinction in Greenland. Most revealing is the detailed evidence of climatic changes that occurred in the northwestern Atlantic beginning in the early 1300s. Changes in atmospheric temperature are recorded in such diverse materials as glacier ice derived from snow falling on the Greenland Ice Cap, fossil vegetation and pollen deposited annually in lake sediments, chemical signatures in isotopic composition of sea sediments, animal and human bones, and even the species of insect pests that accompanied Vikings and their animals as they settled new lands. These indicators clearly suggest that the climate was cooling in the 14th century, and that the Greenlandic environment had been depleted of its “natural capital”—its previously untapped grasslands and animal resources-over 500 years of farming practices in this delicate arctic climate.”

Other references discuss written directions for how to reach Greenland. Around 1200 the directions started to mention avoiding the icebergs, a caution that was missing from earlier instructions. The record, both written and from core samples, shows that Greenland has been warmer in the last 1000 years than it is now. The alarms about global warming aren’t supported by Greenland’s history.

“Global warming” is a study in political opinion manipulation, not science.

That’s pretty weird. I never would’ve thought that the females of one species would prefer males of another species over their own males.

In that case, they would’ve had to do what the white man did in the lower 48...exterminate the wild herds to make way for their imported domestic herds.

This is the real truth. It is amazing - and terribly sad - to see so many people buy into such nonsense without any analysis, just because of their political beliefs and irrational hatreds.
