Stimulus Package: Proponents of a stimulus package argue that putting money in the hands of consumers will boost the economy. Why not just lower taxes and leave the money in consumers hands in the first place? Politicians who favor tax increases and argue against tax cuts, then turn around and argue for a stimulus package are worse than hypocrites. Politicians are trying to buy our votes with our own money. The stimulus package is immoral and outrageous. We have a MASSIVE national debt. We have outrageous deficit spending. Taxes are high. Interest rates are artificially low. Average household debt is outrageously high. The economy has a moderate and minor downturn, and the government prints up some money to give away? What the hell is happening in this country.
Am I alone here? How can conservatives and republicans vote for this?
And seriously, what gives with the blatantly obvious vote buying going on by limiting the stimulus to people earning less than $75,000, and then adding in senior citizens and veterans?
I'm surprised that democrats didn't add in hispanics, blacks, gays, and every other non-white/christian/male subgroup.
Let me get this right. I'm not entitled to a stimulus check because I had net income of $90,000 last year? After taxes, I cannot even afford to buy a house, or pay off my enormous student loan debt, and I have no health insurance. They take my taxes, then give it away in checks to my neighbors who don't work as hard as I do?
I can't even describe how offensive and upsetting this is.
I just think it’s pointless.
Work harder then.
We all need your support. /s
It's an election year.
However, I'm in agreement with you. Tax cuts are always good. This stimulus is ridiculous spending.
Take the money (it's yours) and the don't vote for them.
Ninety grand? It would more than work for us.
Where do you live that that isn’t enough money?
That being said, if someone paid taxes, they should get money back IF the govt. is going to do it.
Can you imagine the founding fathers’ response to being objectively told about the stimulus package?
Gentlemen: The United States is bankrupt, spending outrageously, defecit spending, with a massive debt, borrowing money from foreign countries, allowing massive trade imbalances, selling stock and real estate to anyone who will buy, with a federal annual budget over 25% the size of the gross national production. The government will overtax citizens, then simply give away checks to certain citizens of their choosing.
It’s an election year scam from a bunch of pussies who couldn’t even pass a budget on time. This is pure vote buying and it is targeting a whole lot of people who will put these losers back in office. Term Limits!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I haven’t heard about term limits in a long time.
It’d be nice to see that but I can’t ever see politicians voting themselves out of their cush, control the people jobs.
Senator Bob Corker referred to it as tantamount to the old “give ‘em a bottle of whiskey and a five-dollar bill to vote for you bribe” of the olden days when votes were bought in a more direct way; he is against it and says that it will put our children and grandchildren into debt.
Gosh, we have to lower ourselves to to point of feeling guilty by "taking" our own money now.
$90,000.00. Southern California. Self-Employed.
Subtract $30,000.00 for state and federal taxes.
That’s $60,000.00.
Subtract $12,000.00 for $1,000/month student loands.
That’s $48,000.00.
$4,000.00 per month to support a family in southern california.
The AVERAGE house in my area is $550,000. That’s a monthly mortgage of $3,500.00.
So, $90,000.00 for a youngish professional who is working his ass off, in southern california, with student loans, is not enough money to afford a mortgage.
But, I’m exempted from receiving a stimulus check (with money they are taking from me in the first place?)
Such BS.
LOL...I was going to cut and paste a portion of your post to answer it, but you answered it a few words down.
They like to take lots of our money and give us back a little, because it makes the sheeple think the government is doing them a favor.
I am finishing up school, and will have lots of student loans to pay-off. I look at how much the government will take from me, and how long it will take me to pay off my loans because of taxes, and I want to scream. I think what gets me most is that the government is making money off of my education through interest on my loans, are profiting from my ability to earn more through taxes, and are guaranteeing an increased return on their investment because they will earn more interest because it will take me longer to pay-off my loans because of taxes.
I feel your pain. There isn’t anything like supporting others lifetyles that you can’t afford for yourself.
I suspected that it was somewhere not in the country.
Even in NY that would be enough, but likely whatever you’re doing wouldn’t pay that well here.
And then there’s the weather.....
Why are you making it a racial thing? White males and Christians aren't the only ones who make good money. Egad, come into the current century, plenty of minorities are making what you do.
I have $120,000.00 in student loans. I paid that money to obtain my BA and JD, which are required in my profession.
Guess what? It’s not tax deductible.
A plumber buys a van and tools to do his job? Deductible.
A professional buys a degree required to get a license? not deductible.
Anywhere that the total individual tax burden is more than 50% will make for a sufficient answer.
Most anywhere USA.
It is one step above better than doing nothing. The only reason it is one step above better than nothing is that some taxpayers will get some of their money back from the government, and that is always better than letting the government spend it. That is the only good thing about this.
the rest is wealth redistribution from rich taxpayers to non-taxpayers to buy votes. It will not do any long-term help to the economy. It will buy mostly democrat votes, repubs never benefit from this kind of crap nearly as much as the dems. election year pandering. If I was in office I would have voted against it.
