It's tough out there for day laborers as jobs dwindle with the slumping economy.
The workers outside a Home Depot in north San Bernardino say fewer contractors and homeowners have been driving up looking for gardeners, plumbers, painters and carpenters.
Salvadoran illegal immigrant Juan Rosales says he's lucky now to earn $150 a week doing construction work, about half what he was making.
Mexico immigrant Roberto Panuco, who is a naturalized U.S. citizen, says, "We're becoming desperate."
He's traveled back to his hometown in northern Mexico to do some farming a few months a year because of the grim job situation in this country. But he says the U.S. is now "the same as Mexico, as far as jobs are concerned."
Come For The Jobs.
Stay For The Healthcare.
“... the U.S. is now “the same as Mexico, as far as jobs are concerned.”
CAN WE COME NOW ?
"Given the chance, we would like to ruin the entire country," he continued.
“WORLD ENDS: Women and Minorities Hurt Most”
Yeah, and these guys are taking jobs away from teenagers and others who otherwise might be entering the job market.
Good, now go the hell home.
My heart bleeds for them...wah wah wah.
Perfect storm.
Lets legalize millions of illegals and have them compete against Americans in a weakening economy.
All the more reason they should go home and leave what jobs are available to Americans. Scum bag illegals.
Gardens are very dangerous. Be extra careful and don’t end up like ABBA’s drummer.
Kids today don’t have many of the opportunities we had.
In the late 50’s there were labor shortages and we worked in construction, retail, landscaping etc in the summer..and some evenings. When I look at my SS statement, I can see that I was earning a lot of money, beyond minimum wage, when I was in HS. A lot of kids paid for their college tuition just with their summer work..especially boys who worked construction.

Plumbers? As a plumber I was never aware that I could find a fellow plumber standing there, if I can find journeyman plumbers for $10.00 an hour, I may rethink my policy of not hiring illegals.
If I can buy a used van and put a $10.00 an hour plumber in it, then I could finally make a little money.
A man that can dig a ditch for a sewer line, is not a “plumber”.
Time to roll up your tent, Juan, and head south.
Too damned bad that our worsening economy may be the solution to getting the 50 million illegals to get the hell out of our country.
Too bad we can't get our politicians to leave.
Help them! Please! Somebody!!
These were the people that Rove and Mehlman and McCain said were necessary to provide new voters to the Republican Party. If they go back, the Democrats will take over.
Please do something to keep them here! Can’t we give them unemployment checks or something so they’ll stay?
Silver lining to the debacle with the economy is the immigration situation will correct itself.
The world needs ditch diggers too!!
But if we legalize them, then they'll be Americans. And then the next batch of illegals will be able to claim that the recently-christened Amnesty-Americans are "too lazy" to do the jobs they do!
GAH! ANNOYED!
There aren’t too many illegals in the plumbing and electrical trades because of the stringent codes and licensing in effect for those two areas of construction.
Carpentry, painting, dry walling, tile work, cleanup and landscaping are easier for using unskilled illegal labor.
