As the American Israel Public Affairs Committee met in Washington, U.S. President George Bush Wednesday suspended plans to move the U.S. embassy to Jerusalem.
The White House released a memo to the secretary of state ordering a six-month suspension in preparations for moving the U.S. embassy from Tel Aviv. The order also coincided with a visit to the Oval Office by Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert.
"I hereby determine that it is necessary, in order to protect the national security interests of the United States, to suspend for a period of six months" plans to move the embassy, the president's memo said. "My administration remains committed to beginning the process of moving our embassy to Jerusalem."
The issue of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel has always been a sticking point in the Arab world and negotiations for establishing a Palestinian state have included demands the city be returned to Palestinian control.
Israel captured the Old City in the 1968 Arab-Israeli War.

George Bush has easily managed to make Jimmy Carter appear almost tolerable. Never thought I would see a President as bad as Carter. In so many ways, Bush has been far worse. He has run our country into the ground in a mere 8 years, and made it possible for the Dems to win the presidency with an incompetent like Obama and likely win huge majorities in both houses of Congress.

Well, this is one issue GWB has been consistant about.
He lied about it in 2000, even had it put in the GOP platform. But on taking office, suddenly something changed, and it was in our national security interest not to move the Embassy to land that has been part of Israel since her creation in 1948. And no, 9/11 didn't happen, his first waiver was in June, 2001.
Along comes 9/11, though I'd disagree, if he had cited that, fine, but GWB didn't, and in 2004 he campaigned on the issue again, and left in in the GOP Platform. And proceeded to waive the move every 6 months thereafter.
Hopefully McCain will be honest, either move the Embassy on taking office, or pull it out of the platform.

(b) LIMITATION ON USE OF FUNDS FOR PUBLICATIONS- None of the funds authorized to be appropriated by this Act may be available for the publication of any official government document which lists countries and their capital cities unless the publication identifies Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
(c) RECORD OF PLACE OF BIRTH AS ISRAEL FOR PASSPORT PURPOSES- The first section of `An Act to regulate the issue and validity of passports, and for other purposes', approved July 3, 1926 (22 U.S.C. 211a; 44 Stat. 887) is amended by inserting after the first sentence the following: `For purposes of the issuance of a passport of a United States citizen born in the city of Jerusalem, the Secretary shall, upon the request of the citizen or the citizen's legal guardian, record the place of birth as Israel.'.

Since before the founding of the State of Israel, the U.S. State Department Middle Eastern Division has been dominated by Arabist Arab-loving fags.
I knew when they had that “6-month delay” clause in the bill, that it would be invoked every time by every President.
Israel should move it’s embassy in the USA to Philadelphia and refuse to have it in Washington until its own capital is recognized.

I wish I were President. That embassy would have been moved to Jerusalem by Executive Order within 24 hours of taking the oath of office. I had such hopes back in 2001 for our President. A lot of those hopes went up in smoke. The small consolation is that the alternatives were even worse.
