Ex-Pentagon Official Sentenced To 37 Months For Child Porn (Democrat Wade Sanders)

SAN DIEGO -- A former high-ranking Pentagon official snared in a child pornography investigation was sentenced to 37 months by a federal judge on Monday.

Wade Sanders, 69, was arrested after an FBI agent identified him in October 2007 as one of a batch of suspects who were allegedly sharing child porn electronically. In December, he pleaded guilty, and prosecutors sought a 63-month prison sentence.

Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., is an old friend. Like Kerry, Sanders commanded a swift boat in Vietnam and is a decorated veteran. And Kerry is one of dozens of powerful allies who have written to U.S. District Judge Thomas Whelan to urge him to go easy on Wade.

"The Wade Sanders I know is someone who has always put love of country first," Kerry wrote. "He's been an advocate for his friends, his fellow veterans, his state and his country."

Other supporters lined up to support Sanders include former U.S. senator and war hero Max Cleland of Georgia, who headed the Veterans Administration under President Jimmy Carter; Rep. Lynn Schenk of San Diego, a lawyer and longtime friend of Sanders; and numerous retired Navy officers, friends and relatives of Sanders.

Bernie Jones, the Opinion page editor of The San Diego Union-Tribune, where numerous commentaries by Sanders have been published over the years, also wrote a letter opposing a prison term.

Sanders' attorney, Knut Johnson, argued that the evidence against his client was, in fact, research, but he produced only three pages of undated, handwritten notes in support of that argument, the Union-Tribune reported.

The defense also argued that the work was the product an obsessive-compulsive disorder developed, in part, as a response to his experiences in Vietnam, where he earned the Silver Star, Bronze Star and Purple Heart.

A judge said Sanders could surrender at a later date, 10News reported.

They didn’t go into detail of how much child porn the guy had. I wonder if he had a couple of hard drives full or if he had ten or fifteen pictures.

U.S. senator and war hero Max Cleland of Georgia

It is simply a fact that Max Cleland was not injured by enemy fire in Vietnam. He was not in combat, he was not — as Al Hunt claimed — on a reconnaissance mission, and he was not in the battle of Khe Sanh, as many others have implied. He picked up an American grenade on a routine noncombat mission and the grenade exploded. In Cleland's own words: "I didn't see any heroism in all that. It wasn't an act of heroism. I didn't know the grenade was live. It was an act of fate." That is why Cleland didn't win a Purple Heart, which is given to those wounded in combat. Liberals are not angry because I "lied"; they're angry because I told the truth.

Here we go again - the liberal press lying again. Max Cleland is not, not, not a "war hero."

Apparently, the sicko was putting his love of children first Kerry... you really need to pick better friends...

Your wife is weird rich lady. Your ex running mate, the silk pony is screwing around while waiting for his wife to die.

With friends like yours... who needs enemies?

"About Wade Sanders:

Wade Sanders is a Swift Boat veteran of Vietnam. He did not serve with John Kerry, but they have a strong friendship. Sanders was a surrogate for Kerry during the 2004 campaign. The Oakland Tribune of September 11, 2004 (not available online, except at Free Republic) reports Sanders’ intemperance:

O'Neill "needs to be confronted with the lies he's fomenting," Sanders said. He likened O'Neill and Karl Rove to Nazi propaganda master Joseph Goebbels, saying they "studied at that man's knee."

Sanders continues to be fond of calling Swiftees, or in this case their defenders who document the media’s efforts to squelch the Swiftees, as apostles of Goebbels. In 2008, Sanders writes: “The authors of this book apparently channelled the former Reich Minister of Information…”

Sanders has written virtually the same column over and over, wherever he can get it published, bashing the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth. For example, even at Military.com in 2006, Sanders is still beating his dead horse. Sanders cites the Klein article as evidence that John O’Neill was “ ‘the centerpiece of the Nixon White House strategy to undermine Kerry’ per authoritative reporting on the matter.”

I, and law professor Maimon Schwarzschild, wrote about Wade Sanders in December 2004. Schwarzschild commented on a TV appearance with Sanders earlier in the year:

The odd thing about the fellow, it seemed to me, was his ingrained leftism, coexisting with a perfectly conventional (trial-lawyer) personal style. It wasn't just what he said on the air, which veered into conspiracy theory territory about Bush knowing and approving in advance of ("pervasive") torture and war crimes. Off the air, he was even more revealing. As we chatted with the program host, he reverted repeatedly to the idea that the Iraq war is "racist". (An odd idea, surely?) His eyes lit up almost worshipfully though, when he reported meeting Daniel Ellsberg at some Kerry campaign stop. It was all very much in the spirit of the 60s and 70s anti-war left."

I had this very same argument with another Freeper today, and you have correctly stated that Cleland did NOT receive a Purple Heart for what was in reality, a supreme example of poor judgment (picking up a live grenade while under enemy fire).

I do point out however that Cleland WAS awarded a Silver Star and Bronze Star related to his conduct PRIOR to the grenade incident of 8 April 1968:

Silver Star Medal Citation

"Captain Cleland distinguished himself by exceptionally valorous action on 4 April 1968 … during an enemy attack near Khe Sanh. When the battalion command post came under a heavy enemy rocket and mortar attack, Captain Cleland, disregarding his own safety, exposed himself to the rocket barrage as he left his covered position to administer first aid to his wounded comrades. He then assisted in moving the injured personnel to covered positions. Continuing to expose himself, Captain Cleland organized his men into a work party to repair the battalion communications equipment, which had been damaged by enemy fire. His gallant action is in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service, and reflects great credit upon himself, his unit and the United States Army."

You are correct SkyPilot, and Cleland has already stated that there was nothing heroic about his mishap with a live grenade. But in the interest of fairness, we cannot dismiss his other conduct which qualifies as heroic, and earned him the Silver and Bronze Stars.

Is Max Cleland a hero?

The evidence of 4 April 1968 suggests that he most certainly was.

Max Cleland is not, not, not a "war hero."

If we use the term war hero too loosely it starts to lose it's special meaning. However, if Cleland took enemy fire for this country, I have no problem if one of the terms used to describe him is war hero. Since John Kerry unquestionably took enemy fire on behalf the USA, I consider him a war hero, regardless of whatever else he is.

You stopped making sense after your first sentence.

Cleland was injured during an accident. Hero is not the word.

I served in the military and "took fire" but there is absolutely no way in hell I would ever, ever, ever apply the word heroic to me.

Kerry is a fraud and liar. Read the book "Unfit for Command" and details and testimonies of his contemporaries. These facts are indisputable.

If Cleland suffered the injuries that are so visible now during an accident yet won numerous citations in combat as cited in this thread he is indeed a war hero.

This is like saying a CMOH winner isn’t a war hero because he survived the encounter that distinguished him to such a degree yet lost two legs in a mortar training accident. Really, if you’re not going to look at the entirety of a person’s career you just look like a fool.

Wade Sanders, along with Hurley and a few other Kerry shits were the slander attack dogs of Joh F**ing Kerry during his presidential campaign.

They made Joseph Goebbels look like an amateur in their attacks on Swift Boat veterans.

They had no shame, no morals, no integrity.

Now the pervert is going to get a jailmate named Bubba who hates child pedophiles. Maybe their is justice for Kerry and his band of lies and sleezebags.

Oh, did I tell you, John Kerry served in Vietnam, and Cambodia, and Laos, and Thailand, and France?

Cleland was a “ hero” for his actions that earned the Silver Star. No question about it.

Kerry was very brave in the face of enemy fire so I’ll give him his due. However, it is the fudging of the stories about how he got “three” purples hearts is the heart of the problem. He lied about them or exaggerated about them.

He also lied about his commission of an accidential killing of a Vietnamese woman and her son on a boat, and covered it up.

He lied about what happened at Bay Hap River (and how he left a man behind). Much of this is in the book “Unfit for Command” by O’Neil and Corsi (I did some research for the book), and more is found in the follow-up book “Setting the Record Straight” by Scott Swett, son of a Vietnam vet and Tim Ziegler, a Viet vet).

Kerry was “no officer and gentleman.” He was an opportunist who advanced his own career at the expense of better men he betrayed in Vietnam, and then of all the Vietnam Veterans he betrayed on Television in April, 1971.

Also, his illegal contacts with the VC and No. Vietnamese in Paris constituted treason, and eventually this will catch up with Mr. Heinz.

Remember, Benedict Arnold was a “hero” before he became a “traitor.”

[Cleland should be left alone. He was more honest about his injury than was the mass media].

The investigation had begun in October 2007 when an agent, trolling file-sharing networks searching for people trafficking in child pornography, tracked pornographic files to Sanders’ home computer.

Sanders pleaded guilty in December, six months after federal agents had served a search warrant and seized several computers at his San Diego home.

They contained eight videos, one as along as 45 minutes, of child pornography, Serano said.

Serano said an analysis of the seized computers showed that Sanders viewed all kinds of pornography frequently, and that the child pornography was downloaded to his computer as early as 2003.

He noted that when agents searched the home they spoke to Sanders for 20 minutes. At that time, he did not mention doing research or any other project involving child pornography, the judge said.
