“As the suicidal Democratic congressmen proceed to rubber-stamp the Obama healthcare reform despite the drubbing their party took in the ‘09 elections, the president trotted out the endorsements of the AMA and the AARP to stimulate support. But these — and the other endorsements — his package has received are all bought and paid for.
Here are the deals:
* The American Medical Association (AMA) was facing a 21 percent cut in physicians’ reimbursements under the current law. Obama promised to kill the cut if they backed his bill. The cuts are the fruit of a law requiring annual 5-6 percent reductions in doctor reimbursements for treating Medicare patients. Bravely, each year Congress has rolled the cuts over, suspending them but not repealing them. So each year, the accumulated cuts threaten doctors. By now, they have risen to 21 percent. With this blackmail leverage, Obama compelled the AMA to support his bill…or else!
* The AARP got a financial windfall in return for its support of the healthcare bill. Over the past decade, the AARP has morphed from an advocacy group to an insurance company (through its subsidiary company). It is one of the main suppliers of Medi-gap insurance, a high-cost, privately purchased coverage that picks up where Medicare leaves off. But President Bush-43 passed the Medicare Advantage program, which offered a subsidized, lower-cost alternative to Medi-gap. Under Medicare Advantage, the elderly get all the extra coverage they need plus coordinated, well-managed care, usually by the same physician. So more than 10 million seniors went with Medicare Advantage, cutting into AARP Medi-gap revenues.
Presto! Obama solved their problem. He eliminates subsidies for Medicare Advantage. The elderly will have to pay more for coverage under Medigap, but the AARP — which supposedly represents them — will make more money. * The drug industry backed ObamaCare and, in return, got a 10-year limit of $80 billion on cuts in prescription drug costs. (A drop in the bucket of their almost $3 trillion projected cost over the next decade.) They also got administration assurances that it will continue to bar lower-cost Canadian drugs from coming into the U.S. All it had to do was put its formidable advertising budget at the disposal of the administration.
* Insurance companies got access to 40 million potential new customers. But when the Senate Finance Committee lowered the fine that would be imposed on those who don’t buy insurance from $3,500 to $1,500, the insurance companies jumped ship and now oppose the bill, albeit for the worst of motives.
The only industry that refused to knuckle under was the medical device makers. They stood for principle and wouldn’t go along with Obama’s blackmail. So the Senate Finance Committee retaliated by imposing a tax on medical devices such as automated wheelchairs, pacemakers, arterial stents, prosthetic limbs, artificial knees and hips and other necessary accoutrements of healthcare.
So these endorsements are not freely given, but bought and paid for by an administration that is intent on passing its program at any cost.”
I don't think it could be more obvious. Equally obvious was the front page, above the fold story in the Post-Dispatch about how awful have been the rants against muslims over the killings. Consider me unsympathetic. There are 13 dead and many more wounded and it never had to happen.
There may be good news in this, IF the overwhelming congratulations on getting health Care Change passed on Saturday overwhelms the election results from Tuesday. Maybe the Dems will forget the complete turnaround in actual people voting from last year to this year. So, next November could be even more of a surprise.
As a Free Republic fund-raiser, how about if we raffle off a chance to put a garbage can on James Carville's head after the results are announced in November 2010?

....singing in the choir this morning. Will be back around noonish. Keep me apprised of the goings on on the Sunday talk shows. I might to see some of MTP.
I note, wryly, that the pubs have been all over the TV of late. Yesterday I watched at least three press conferences by the pubs and I think they held even more.
Also, it was a pub who organized that Thursday tea party and many other pubs came out and joined the party once it got underway.
I’ve seen various and sundry pubs on the talk shows of all sort, some of them good, some not so much. Point is though, they were there.
Point being, funny how the pubs can get face time WHEN THE PEOPLE HAVE ALREADY FOUGHT THEIR BATTLE!
The news people come to their press conferences when they get out of the tanning booths and hold one. They get face time on the talk shows when they either accept or demand invitations.
The pubs know the public is on their side with this health care. Many folks have already marched and attended town halls. Then suddenly, like the sun after a cloudy day, we see pubs everywhere.
Which is no nevermind but don’t keep them giving them passes I suggest softly. If they have some backbone and gonads they can make a dent. I’ve been proud by half again at how outspoken they’ve been with this health care. They’ve made some major, major strategic moves that have really hurt the Dems.
One example, then I must go sing, is that the pubs actually sat down and crafted, and widely PUBLICIZED, their own health care plan.
For so long the Dems counted on the pubs sitting on their hands and used the mantra that the pubs had no better alternative.
so the pubs crafted a plan and presented it very well thank you, at several press conferences that I watched with my lying eyeballs.
Soon enough we had Debbie Wasserman, that fine, fine honest woman from Florida, on TV and blasting the pubbie plan as being bad for the people, yada, yada. The most important thing here is that the pubs took the Dems talking points right out from under them. Because if Wasserman, who never ever tells a lie, can complain about the pub plan...THEN SHE CAN NO LONGER SAY THEY HAVE NONE!
That’s because the pubs, our loyal opposition party, did their jobs.
I know it’s bad news from last night but the Dems haven’t won this battle and I don’t think they will.
When I get back I will lay out what the Dems plan is. No saying I’m right with my insight but I’ll throw it out there.

Good for the Republicans. But now we have to both encourage them to keep it up and warn them not to go wobbly!
Also, the next several months will be crucial to ensuring that we support real conservatives in the Republican primaries. Take your Mike Castle up in Delaware. Has he no conservative challenger? Is it already too late?

I am glad to see that the GOP as a whole isn’t being condemned. If you look at Cao’s record, it’s obvious he is under heavy constituent pressure. He does represent William Jefferson’s old district.
For those who say that there is no difference between the parties, I would remind you that when we held the majority we didn’t produce legislation like this. The Cap and Trade bill that passed the House last summer is just as bad. I read that entire bill, and when people find out what is in it there is going to be anger like the democrats imagine.
Additionally, the Bush tax cuts expire next year. How in the world will democrats be able to spin that Americans will be getting to keep less of their money? That is a not something that can be denied; people will see their paychecks shrink.
We need to stick together, remain calm, and talk about what’s in these bills at every opportunity. And we need ADS!
