...”The kids are the losers, once again”...

I am not so sure the kids will be losers to be away from teachers with values like those. You do not have to have a teaching certificate to know how to teach..Parents can put their heads together, share and think “out of the box” to find ways to educate their kids. This education system stinks anyway and should be replaced along with the Teacher’s Union.

No problem, the Wisconsin legislature is empowered with the ability to compel attendance and issue warrants for their arrest. As for the teachers, if I were the governor I would tell them that if they missed work on Monday and did not have a doctor’s note or valid excuse, they would be fired for conducting an illegal strike and would lose all their benefits.

100% correct. Excellent solution. Worth repeating.

What if one of them has a family emergency at home and needs to go back to Wisconsin...

“The students in Wisconsin weren’t getting an education worth a darn “

Inform the kids and parents that they will have to make up the days missed because of this liberal/illegal action, during their Summer vacation.

I see this as a plan from Our community organizer and chief. They are just buying time for the Rat party to bus in even more union, scum sucking pig vomit, to wreck havoc in WI.

This proposal has been posted on almost every thread, and every time is corrected: They need 20 senators to hold a vote. There are only 19 Republicans.

Bwahahaha... Since they’re not doing official business they should absolutely have their credit cards shut down and salary held. Would love to see their fellow rats flushing their personal money down the toilet to feed and clothe these clowns.

Oh yeah, give them a taste of private sector life- you abandon a job for a few days... you get fired!

If I were the Governor, I would have my staff scouring the laws on the books concerning law makers leaving their jobs.

Since the rats have never said when they plan to return, they should be deemed PERMANENTLY resigning their seats.

Give them one week to return including time they quit serving.

We need to do what Thatcher did in the 80’s, she stood her ground and busted the unions heads in Britain and saved the UK.

No they don’t. This has been extensively covered on every single Wisconsin thread. They need a Quorum of 3/5ths for any bill dealing with spending which means 20 people. With all the rats MIA they have 19. They can still pass non spending related bills. They should pass concealed carry, castle doctrine, project exile, etc... while the scumbags are hiding.

“I think they’ll wind up arresting at least one of them found in state.”

I don’t think they can be arrested while the Senate is in session.

I don’t know but whoever approves these coward’s expenses better be going over them in detail and denying any reimbursement during these days.

If a simple majority is enough for a quorum for non-appropriations bills, then get this on the governor's desk by tomorrow morning:

The 3/5 quorum required for the vote on this bill is required by the WI Constitution.

There will come a time when they are no longer considered residents. Will they also lose their status as state elected officials?

I believe that they can be arrested but only if the Assembly issues a warrant. That may yet happen.

Jon Erpenbach is the Senator who lives in Middleton.
I was born in Madison & raised in Middleton. I graduated from MHS.

This piece of crap is the polar opposite of any persons I was raised with or around.
Hard working farmers & local businessmen should be ashamed of this legacy of the years of efforts by their predecessors.

Here are some things the people of Wisconsin could do to turn up the heat and compell their Senators to return:

Wisconsin Constitution.

Article XIII, §12

Recall of elective officers. Section 12. [As created Nov. 1926 and amended April 1981] The qualified electors of the state, of any congressional, judicial or legislative district or of any county may petition for the recall of any incumbent elective officer after the first year of the term for which the incumbent was elected, by filing a petition with the filing officer with whom the nomination petition to the office in the primary is filed, demanding the recall of the incumbent.

1. Start recall proceedings against all AWOL Democrats who were not just elected.

Article IV, §7

Organization of legislature; quorum; compulsory attendance. Section 7. Each house shall be the judge of the elections, returns and qualifications of its own members; and a majority of each shall constitute a quorum to do business, but a smaller number may adjourn from day to day, and may compel the attendance of absent members in such manner and under such penalties as each house may provide.

Article IV, §8

Rules; contempts; expulsion. Section 8. Each house may determine the rules of its own proceedings, punish for contempt and disorderly behavior, and with the concurrence of two-thirds of all the members elected, expel a member; but no member shall be expelled a second time for the same cause.

2. Republicans should continue to conduct business that only requires a simple majority for a quorum. During that business, they should enact penalties for the AWOL Democrats. These penalties cannot include expulsion, since Section 8 requires a 2/3rd requirement, which their current quorum cannot attain.

3. The remaining business should be of the nature that Democrats would have debated and opposed, so that this business can pass unobstructed while Democrats are away.

Article IV, §11

Meeting of legislature. Section 11. The legislature shall meet at the seat of government at such time as shall be provided by law, unless convened by the governor in special session, and when so convened no business shall be transacted except as shall be necessary to accomplish the special purposes for which it was convened.

4. The Governor has the power to convene a special session of the Legislature. While Section 11 appears to require the Legislature to meet at the seat of government, it does not require special sessions convened by the Governor to do so (the use of the word "unless"). Governor Walker should convene a special session of the Wisconsin Legislature wherever the AWOL Democrats are gathering (even if it is out of state), for the purpose of voting on this bill. I'm arguing that being out of state does not invalidate the votes, as long as open doors are maintained and a journal of the proceedings is kept.

Article XIII, §11

Passes, franks and privileges. Section 11.No person, association, copartnership, or corporation, shall promise, offer or give, for any purpose, to any political committee, or any member or employee thereof, to any candidate for, or incumbent of any office or position under the constitution or laws, or under any ordinance of any town or municipality, of this state, or to any person at the request or for the advantage of all or any of them, any free pass or frank, or any privilege withheld from any person, for the traveling accommodation or transportation of any person or property, or the transmission of any message or communication.

No political committee, and no member or employee thereof, no candidate for and no incumbent of any office or position under the constitution or laws, or under any ordinance of any town or municipality of this state, shall ask for, or accept, from any person, association, copartnership, or corporation, or use, in any manner, or for any purpose, any free pass or frank, or any privilege withheld from any person, for the traveling accommodation or transportation of any person or property, or the transmission of any message or communication.

Any violation of any of the above provisions shall be bribery and punished as provided by law, and if any officer or any member of the legislature be guilty thereof, his office shall become vacant.

5. Republicans should begin an investigation into who is paying for an extended stay of "days or weeks" of AWOL Democrats. Who paid for the bus that transported the AWOL Democrats. If it is determined that the AWOL Democrats were recipients of illegal franks or passes, then it can be deemed a bribe and charges filed with the violation being punished by the seat being declared vacant. Then let the Democrats deal with bribery charges and the possible loss of their seats as a result of their fleeing.

-PJ
