The smart money says Sarah Palin won't run in 2012
The Guardian ^ | 05/18/2001 | Paul Harris

The Republican race to get the 2012 nomination has barely begun, yet it already has its fair share of casualties who have fallen by the wayside.

First, there was Haley Barbour, the good ol' boy Mississippi governor, who was widely expected to run – even by his own staff – right up until the moment he pulled out. Then, Donald Trump's bizarre campaign fired itself. Finally, Mike Huckabee, who topped a lot of Republican polls and was favourite to win Iowa, declared: "All the factors say go, but my heart says no."

Which leads one to wonder: who might be next to take a dive and pull out before they even get in?

Sarah Palin looks a good bet.

The answer is not going to run and cannot win. For you people from California, that is the same thing as saying 82% of the republican voters want someone else.

It is also saying that 80% of the Republican voters want somebody other than Romney. Should he drop out, too?

Just want to add that Palin has done none of the things that serious candidates do in these early months. That’s why savvy political observers do not believe she is running. Might she decide to get in after all? Yes, but the longer she goes without doing all the necessary preparatory work, the harder it will be for her to overcome the challenges of organizing a national campaign apparatus.

I could go along with that, but he also has high name id and thin support.

Since they both lost the last time I doubt it. And there is another poll posted here that says Bachmann has higher intense support, with 58% name id.

McCain lost. And he would've lost by an even larger margin had it not been for Palin.

I think he will. He’s announcing on Saturday. I hate to hear the naysayers dismiss him saying no one knows him. Let’s all work real hard so everyone will know him. Everyone is an “unknown” at some point. He’s tremendous.

“Dire predictions” and “fear tactics” are you blind to what Urkel is attempting to do? Are you going to effectively assist that. This more than would be justified by your petty complaints. ANY Republican would be far preferable to Urkel. I would vote for Satan himself to defeat him.

That’s what Stalin thought when he instructed the Communists not to ally with the Social Democrats against Hitler. That worked out real gud, didn’t it?

She will have plenty of money available to her. I have never given to an individual candidate but I will to her.

This is not 1980. The political landscape has changed dramatically since then. Both the manner and speed of information and news dissemination have also changed dramatically. The later a candidate waits, the more they are at a disadvantage.

Well then Newtie should be in good shape now that he has shot himself in both feet right out of the starting gate while crossing his legs to hold a pee.

Another term of Urkel and there won’t be anything to save. Nor will there be any virtue in you sitting in the ruins proudly telling all “Obama is no different than the Republicans”.

Every GOP candidate is better than Obama. Don’t be ridiculous.

There is a difference in dragging a lacking Republican to the right and attempting to prevent incredible evil. Look at what Clinton was able to do to our national security in his two terms. Look at what Obama has already done. That cannot be allowed to continue.

Expecting the election of those who can get about 2% of the vote is ridiculous as is expecting a White Knight to ride in from the non-political world.

Politics is the art of the possible.

Perry is obviously an honorable man and would make a fine president.
