Weiner-less: Morning Joe Buries Coverage Of 'Anthony' For First Half-Hour
NewsBusters ^ | Mark Finkelstein

Posted on 06/07/2011 6:53:57 AM PDT by governsleastgovernsbest

When I began watching my DVR recording of Morning Joe today, I was of course wondering which clip from yesterday's Weiner press conference Morning Joe had chosen to open the show. When instead a clip of Jon Stewart mocking Sarah Palin appeared, I literally wondered if I was playing the recording of the wrong day's Morning Joe.

But as the first half-hour unfolded, it became obvious that Morning Joe had made a conscious decision to black out any mention of Weiner-gate during today's first half-hour. Hat tip NB reader Matthew E.

Morning Joe blacks out any mention of Weinergate during first half-hour. Mind-blowing bias ping to Today show list.

If he doesn’t report it, maybe it will go away...

I did something terrible (and have been at it for a long time).

I lied about it and lied about it (Wouldn’t you? Everyone I know would.)

I am so sorry for the pain I have caused (and that I got caught).

I take full responsibility for this (whatever that means).

So now everything is OK and I’m not stepping down (I’m a Democrat, so its alright).

MCNBC went all-in on defending one of their own. They can try to change the story, but they shouldn't be allowed to hide from the propaganda they promoted.

“People are already tired of this story. Up next: Is Sarah Palin too stupid to breathe?”

Make that:

Weinerless? I think not. Joe was on Morning Joe.

BE a Weiner and rule MSLSD.

HUM a Weiner and work for the Clintons.

VOTE for a Weiner and wreck the Republic.

I noticed this too, but the newsbusters review doesn’t tell the whole story. They pretty much mocked the elephant in the room by pointing out a bunch of obscure headlines (mining industry standards in South America, for example). By itself, no big deal. But I’m sure a review of the archives would reveal a lot of openings regarding the scandals of republicans. I could probably stomach the show a bit more if I didn’t have to see the vapid Mika and her laborious, contrived grimaces every three seconds.

Actually, I did mention some of the trivial news stories they highlighted during the first half-hour, such as Newt’s travel plans and the failure of the CT governor to appoint a transportation commissioner.

Just clicked through, and yes you mention it. However, you seem to think it was an earnest attempt to report on the crucial news items of the day. Clearly, they were making fun of the issue.

It’s really funny to watch the “Morning Joe” show. if they only had a clue how meaningless their banter and spin is. Not one person on the entire staff and show is living in the real world. And.....that young lady Mika, is not the sharpest knife in the drawer. Sad!!! What a farce!!! But....fear not, folks, reality will soon creep in and hit these morons smack in the face!!!

The whole thrust of my NB item this morning was the bias and bad judgment involved in Morning Joe’s decision to black out the story during the first half-hour.

I know. It's my contention that it wasn't bad news judgment. They were simply mocking the whole affair. They weren't burying Weinergate, they were highlighting it. Any other read of the situation is a bit naive, I think.

Now I'm not saying they are above burying important news, or coloring coverage in a way that obscures reality. But in this instance, I thought it was harmless.

I stopped even channel surfing by the ‘Morning Joe’ show when Mika took over a month or two ago.

You know she’ll never acknowledge any scandal like ‘weinergate’.

But hey, thanks for the update!

The NYC Fox affiliate was all-Weiner all morning, with breaks for the weather. Roseanna Scotto (usually a mild dingbatty lean to the left) and Greg Kelly (mildly conservative, son of police commissioner Kelly) talked about little else.

No sympathy for Weiner there - scorn, disgust and mocking.

I'd advise Mika to stop with the contorted facial grimaces...my Mom once told me that if I did that my face would stay that way.
