Rubio Faults GOP 'Rhetoric' (Rubio urges new tone on immigration)
The Wall Street Journal ^ | 2011-10-28 | Naftali Bendavid & Arian Campo-Flores

Many Republicans see Marco Rubio as a rising star who can help them win over the fast-growing Hispanic population, but the Florida senator says toned-down rhetoric on the hot-button issue of immigration would be more likely to bring those voters to the GOP.

"The policies are important, but the rhetoric is sometimes the impediment," Mr. Rubio said in an interview. "Sometimes—and I'm not pointing fingers at anyone—the way the message is communicated is harmful and has hurt Republicans."

The problem with the toned down rhetoric is that the ruling class will just ignore the problem unless it is contentious and nasty. For example, W was prepared to ignore us and pass amnesty until we got nasty.

So it seems to me the problem is that the political class ignores the problem—not that we demand their attention. Ignoring that problem just makes it bigger every year.

I guaranteed Rubio that if our ruling class closes the border and starts enforcing existing immigration laws, the rhetoric will get a lot more moderate.

With all due respect, Mr Rubio, Illegals should go through the process of becoming a citizen. How many thousands are trying to do it the right way.

Looks like the Washington Compost articles have got u in that go along, get along mentality.

I tend to like Rubio quite a bit, but I can’t deny his closeness with Jeb Bush and the open-borders crowd unnerves me considerably. The first unwelcome hint was when he demured on the topic of the AZ bill when Jan Brewer passed it.

Rubio preaches sensible domestic policy, but he’s out to lunch on the border. Not unless there is some reverse Kool Aid that we can require anyone getting amnesty to drink first.

Obey the law, Rubio. That’s all you have to do. If you can’t understand that concept, go hold hands with Perry and seek office in your choice of hellhole central and south American countries.

So it seems to me the problem is that the political class ignores the problem—not that we demand their attention.

Before Rubio gets destroyed here for saying something quite sensible, let me say that there is just one way to demand the attention of the political class: threaten to vote them out and follow through on it.

Nasty rhetoric means nothing to them if they're convinced they can win re-election.

There should not BE a "ruling class". Term limits would be step one in eliminating it.

Rubio has been getting a lot of support and being lobbied by that douche Rev. Samuel Rodriguez lately.

Rubio has already turned & is a liar.

If one believes that such orgs. as MEChA and LaRaza wish only to advance the cause of racist Hispanic separatism, then the “rhetoric” is intended to wake America up. We are at war with those Rubio wants to court. If you believe this to be an exaggeration, check their websites. This from the national MEChA:

“In the spirit of a new people that is conscious not only of its proud historical heritage but also of the brutal “gringo” invasion of our territories, we, the Chicano inhabitants and civilizers of the northern land of Aztlán from whence came our forefathers, reclaiming the land of their birth and consecrating the determination of our people of the sun, declare that the call of our blood is our power, our responsibility, and our inevitable destiny.

We are free and sovereign to determine those tasks which are justly called for by our house, our land, the sweat of our brows, and by our hearts. Aztlán belongs to those who plant the seeds, water the fields, and gather the crops and not to the foreign Europeans. We do not recognize capricious frontiers on the bronze continent.”

The bronze contintinent is California, Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, Texas, Utah, Oregon, parts of Washington. These states are to be taken from “gringo” and reunited with Mexico & Central America into its original Aztlan. So, to describe this is “rhetoric”? Rubio needs to sit down.

I’m not sure what he wants us to say or how he wants us to say it. If the message is right but the tone is wrong does he want us to say “ please obey the law and return to your country of origin and apply for legal entry” (been there, done that to no avail)- “you are welcome if you obey our immigration laws” (doesn’t work) - “I understand that your child is a good student but you are taking unfair advantage of our generosity and you really should leave and re-enter legally” (hahahaha! yeah THAT will work!)

I’m not about to suggest amnesty whether it be nicely or rudely. Giving in-state tuition to non-US citizens when legal, US citizens can’t get it is just plain wrong!

Doing or saying ANYTHING that will encourage an illegal alien to come here or stay here just isn’t acceptable. So what does Rubio want us to say and how does he want us to say it?
