Say hello to your new rip-off priced incandescent bulbs. Two of these go for $3.29 at Home Depot, I saw them yesterday. HD no longer has the old kind 100 watters. 75 is the highest they go and those are due to be phased out January 2013
Last year you could buy a 6 pack 100 watt incandescents for $2.
This year you must pay $3.29 for 2 bulbs that put out the same light as ye old 100watt bulbs but consume only 72 watts to do so. 28% energy savings says the box
If one looks closely at the brand on the box, one will note that this corporation lobbied very heavily (we know what that means) for the light bulb legislation we had shoved up our butts.
Gee whiz, could there be a connection?
Putting your faith in government is truly a Faustian bargain.
These stores that are honoring it must be doing so voluntarily. I know you can still readily get Chinese made 100 watt incandescents many places and on the internet (most American production shut down when it looked like the ban was going to be enforced).

We use burning faggots mounted on poles to light the grounds at ye olde compound.
Meh, I don’t do Home “gay friendly” Depot.
Thankfully, I stocked up early.
Are you kidding? They don’t have the cajones to defund Obamacare despite a gazillion symbolic votes against Obamacare — what makes you think they mean what they say?
The savings are also predicated on the bulb having a longer life.
However, I find that they burn out rather rapidly some times and almost never last as long as adverised.
You can find halogen bulbs at Lowes and other places. “Ecovantage” is just a halogen bulb. Nothing magic.
They did strip enforcement funds, but most large retailers are too afraid to take that plunge, knowing that Uncle Sam could do a 180 on them at any time and turn their inventory into worthless junk.
New opportunity comin’ up; smuggling illegal 100 watt bulbs in freight containers marked “halal” so they won’t be inspected. < /sarc >
Shouldn’t that be “flaming”?
Sounds like an opportunity for “factory direct lightbulbs”...
They were banned. Went to Lowe's and the clerk actually tried to sell me the newest LED replacement option. It was $69.99.
I laughed in the poor clerk's face and walked out.
Now that’s an idea but can’t you get AIDS from dripping grease?
Homey De-Pot in my area no longer honors the military discount. I take my business elsewhere.
