How does a Democratic fund-raiser from the Clinton era manage to turn scandal into triumph? How does a former head of the Democratic Party whose character is more than a little questionable manage to turn his background into a stint living in the Governor's Mansion in Virginia? That's easy. All you have to do is accuse your opponent of waging a war on women. Never mind if it's the truth. Just spend millions of money telling the lie and it becomes the truth for a lot of people. Just ask Terry McAuliffe and Ken Cuccinelli. Even though Cuccinelli closed the gap in the last days of the election, mainly because of the disastrous roll out of Obamacare, McAuliffe defeated him on the back of a major campaign push to define his opponent as a man who conducts a war on women.
I haven't followed a lot of this particular election cycle, but I when I learned Terry McAuliffe was running for Governor of Virginia, I remember wondering how he could even be considered. Yes, he has raised loads of money for the Democratic Party and its candidates, but he has also been involved in a great deal of questionable activities. You can read about some of these at Mother Jones, but the list is quite extensive. McAuliffe's activities could be considered criminal and have been investigated. Notably, he has no qualms about making himself wealthy on the back of his fundraising activities.
Allow me to explain. McAuliffe represents an unseemly slice of Washington. His primary role in politics for the past two decades or more has been raising moneymost notably, for the Clintons. He cooked up the idea of essentially renting out the Lincoln bedroom during the Clinton administration as a fundraising vehicle, and he smashed all previous presidential fundraising records in the process. When McAuliffe was the Dems' top fundraiser, a campaign finance scandal besieged the Clinton White House. Coincidence? No. McAuliffe was all about pushing the envelope when it came to the political money chase. You would do well to read the list of those unsavory characters at the link. It makes you wonder how Terry McAuliffe could even be considered a viable candidate for Governor of Virginia. You should then remind yourself that this is the Democratic Party. They don't care about scandals like these. Instead of being repulsed by them, they embrace them. They go on the attack and accuse their opponents of waging a war on women. That alone might not be enough to render him a distasteful political candidate. What's different about McAuliffe is his brazen mixing of his campaign fundraising activity and attempts to enrich himself personally. Many of McAuliffe's business deals have come about due to his place in the political cosmos, not because he possesses a wealth of business skill. That tangled history has linked him to a long list of unsavory characters.
From all indications, Ken Cuccinelli did not run a great campaign. I saw it referred to in one place as "Cuccinelli not getting out of Cuccinelli's way". That may very well be true and probably contributed to his own defeat, but it still worries me that a Democratic candidate like Terry McAuliffe could so easily lie about his opponent and ignore his own past. It worries me even more that enough voters would believe McAuliffe and send him to power in Virginia.
When you stop and think about it, however, maybe it's not so surprising. After all, Barack Obama managed to use the same strategy to defeat Mitt Romney for a second term. It makes me strongly question where the voters in America have placed their priorities.
American women have lost a lot of ground over the last few decades, forced into the workplace while foregoing children to subsidize the women of the permanent underclass who breed recklessly for freebies. The unmarried, childless American women I work with vote straight lib, then rage over the resulting loneliness they sow as a result of men dropping out of the whole family thing.
On a positive note, such people are becoming a thing of the past as American men marry and breed with traditional women from other cultures/countries. I’m tired of hearing how women have swung races to the Dems, and won’t miss them a bit as they fade into obscurity. When I was in grammar school, we had a 3:2 boy/girl ration; my sons have a similar disparity in their classes. Methinks some women are selectively aborting their females; it is an unnatural rate.
Wait until more women like the one with stage four cancer will lose their health care too. Will these brain dead idiots finally get it then?
Anyway, I just don’t buy this narrative about why dickface won VA. NoVA is filled with people not born here in the US who learn fast to vote for Dems as their big hand out machine. Unlike immigrants of the past.
There isn’t enough conservatives in the other areas of VA to make up for the huge percentage of these people who now in live NoVA.
THAT is the issue.
In his 2002 campaign for Virginia state Senate, Cuccinelli said that he did not support legal abortion for victims of rape or incest.
When over half of the voters are women, that kind of ignorance will get you every time. He likely lost many more votes than he gained from that nonsense.
And THAT is becoming the issue all over the US.
I will say it again. Women should not vote.
The unmarried Slut Bloc comes through again for the Democrats. Free contraception and tax-payer funded abortion are the goals they’ve dedicated their worthless lives to. But some day they will be old, alone and then they’ll die, still wedded to Big Government.
The majority (not all) of American women and girls will burn in hell for all of eternity... because those that love the murder of the most innocent amongst us are in the majority and they vote evil into office in almost every close election.
I think white women ended up for Cuccinelli by like a 16% margin. Honestly that should have been enough to put him over.
I agree. The abortion issue was settled a long time ago and the majority of women will not vote for a pro life candidate, especially if the candidate is against abortion for victims of rape, incest or life of the mother. In addition, most people don’t care what gays do or don’t do relative to marriage. The far right will dig in their heals for their ideal candidate and they will lose.
This will only change if the minds of millions of voters are changed, one at a time.
You don't have to like these facts, you just have to accept them.
Wait until their healthcare quadruples in price!
Ah Yes, because ALL women voters have the uncontrollable urge to Murder their Unborn in their Womb, it's instinct really (that is what Maternity means doesn't it?)
WTH are thinking man? Some of the Best Conservatives we have right now are women.
Whatever the sins of the parents the child is always innocent.
Besides even if being Pro-Abortion puts you on the side of winning Liberal Women, It Doesn't put you on the side of someone FAR more.........omnipotent....
>Some of the Best Conservatives we have right now are women.
Possibly. I’ll wager that not a single one of them supports forcing raped women to carry their rapists unborn child.

The Child is Always Innocent.
Maybe you need to talk a look into a mirror and ask what that child did to deserve death.
“the majority of women will not vote for a pro life candidate”
This is a myth.
The DC area, governmentopolis, is entirely different. Due to the gov’t jobs, women outnumber men. It is not a nice place for a young woman. I was single and worked at the Pentagon in the 70s and 80s. Single men there (ok oversimplification) treat new young women moving to DC for a career as “fresh meat”. [As many married men do also, lying about that fact.] Most of them do not have a prayer of meeting a nice single potential husband — there.
IOW the area is not a normal demographic. It is distorted. It is over-represented by women, and within that number, of single women, and within that number, of lonely women who can never achieve a normal family life if they want their “career.”
don’t flame me — just saying — an observation
The Far Right? me thinks you are lost. Free Republic was the Tea Party before there was a Tea Party.
You don't win by compromising your principles, you win by making the other guy compromise HIS principles.
And One Prinples FR stands on is Pro-Life, something which has been lacking in this thread......
