"Knockout Game" hits another victim in D.C

WASHINGTON (WJLA) - Phoebe Connolly says she had no idea what was coming when she biked through a group of teens in Columbia Heights.

"My whole head went flying to the side," she explains. "It was a hard punch. One kid came from the side and pretty much cut me off. "He just like threw a hook with his left hand, and just got me right in the face," she continues. "And he said 'wa-pow' as he hit me in the face."

Phoebe says she was able to pedal away, but was left sore and with a bloody nose. Otherwise, she is okay. "I posted something on Facebook, and a friend of mine said, 'Oh, that sounds like the knockout game.' And I'd never heard of it."

Phoebe then Googled it and realized the same thing had happened the night before in the District.

"I learned that in Columbia Heights specifically it happened, and realized that was probably the same group of kids," she said.

A 27-year-old woman says Thursday night she was on foot when a group of teens, also on bikes, came up. One punched her hard in the back of her head. But she was not knocked out either, telling ABC7 she was left with a sore head and neck.

However, videos from elsewhere show victims who were completely knocked out cold -- like in New York and New Jersey.

Now, D.C. police are saying to watch out for it here. Connolly works with teens for a living, and says the knockout game is senseless.

"Are they going to take somebody's money? Are they going to take their cell phone? No, they're just going to knock you out. There's no purpose for it whatsoever," she says.

I think it’s interesting we’re not allowed to say that they are black youth.

In cases such as the Trayvon Martin case, we were lectured endlessly that it was all about race. And race was continually discussed, as in Trayvon was black, Trayvon was targeted because he was black, yadda, yadda, yadda.

In these knockout game cases, every single criminal is a black youth. These are not random “teenagers” or “kids”. We live in such a politically correct world that we aren’t allowed to fully disclose certain facts.

A couple of months ago, an associate of my brother....went to Chattanooga. Stayed downtown in the hotel and pub district. Stepped out just at sundown to have supper and a beer. Barely got three hundred feet from the hotel, when two “gentlemen” passed him (young punks). About ten seconds later, he has this sudden force hitting him from the rear and knocking him out on the ground.

The guy was out for maybe a minute or two. No robbery or such. He comes to....wondering what happened. No one near him at all. A few folks from down the street looking at him but no one reacting. He’s bruised up badly, but more worried about some second attack. He walks back to the hotel. Never reports it to the cops, because he knows it just turns into paperwork.

He gets checked out by his personal doc on Monday, and he’s got a mild concussion. Nothing bad from the deal, but some questions and hostility.

His son sorts through You-Tube for days. He finally finds this video there, and one of the punks video-taped the other jumping this guy. They talk over a cop report now, but a lawyer says to them...you get those sort of people in a court, and they often seek revenge. It’s not advised to do anything.

I was pointed to the YouTube site guy. No location on initial viewing, then I dug into it. This punk is from DC (he’s not a Chattanooga player). It appears that he’s around 17, a drop-out from the DC school system. I get an impression that he’s a drug courier for some crew in DC and makes runs for them. The knockout game was something they simply exported around the nation.

There’s probably a lot more folks out there....who got knocked out, and never came forward. The news in the dark? Well...maybe they will track this and notice a trend particulary in DC. My humble bet is that this trend continues for a few years, and then everyone starts to tote a pistol, and then you start to notice a dead guy or gal on the street who is picked up by the cops....no idea who shot them. And that trend goes for several years.

One of the early topics of the CWII ping list was the book "Civil War II" by Tom Chittum.

The author, based in part on his experience in both Yugoslavia and Zimbabwe, was convinced that multicultural societies are very prone to civil wars, and regardless of how wars start, they tend to quickly break down along the most obvious racial, ethnic or religious dividing lines (depending on the region). His book included a checklist of items that would indicate the fractures were getting worse.

I don't think the knock-out game was on that, but his predictions are looking more and more precocious all the time.

I remember reading that the Boston Strangler started by killing older, weaker women and as he “practiced”, his prey became younger and stronger women. So are these guys “training up” on women before they take on a man?
