Morton's eventually DID issue an apology, by the way.
What if he had been a Jew?
I even sleep with my beanie these days. My newly-bald head gets cold! I think I look kinda cool, though.
The Facebook mafia strikes again!
Bunch of reactionary self-reightious morons that get off on never thinking before attacking.
My guess is the suits are Morton were horrified by the actions of this (soon to be ex) manager. Asking for a doctors’ note? Really? My experience with this restaurant, and I’ve eaten at the one in downtown Nashville, is that it is fabulously well run.
I wouldn’t be surprised if the manager is fired .and I’m sure he/she was disciplined. That 2K the company donated to St. Judes may even come out of that persons pay.
Let’s see them tell a muslimette she can’t wear her head scarf.
Hey, at least he wasn’t smoking.
That’s just Sikh...
What gets me is that they had to be asked to leave. After that treatment, I would have gotten up and walked out, before the huffy manager had a chance to ask.
Rules, or no, it is obvious that the manager didn’t want their business, so why argue about it?
I would not even consider going to one of these places. Any business that thinks they are so valuable that it makes since to treat their customers as children I stay away from. It’s bad enough we have a government with that attitude.
I find the concept of a “high-end” chain amusing.
By definition, chains are strictly working-class.
So much time, effort and energy could be saved by being blunt with the manager.
“If you let me wear my cap, we will all eat, pay and leave. If you make any issue about this at all, we will go on the Internet, and within a few hours you will be vilified, your corporation will demand a personal apology from you, they will likely feel forced to give a large check to some charity, and you will still have your business reputation ruined. You might even lose your job, or at least any chance for a future promotion.
“Over a hat.
“So I strongly advise you, let it go. If any of your other customers complain, tell them it’s a medical thing. In doing so, the rest of your evening and the next few days will be pleasant, and no one will be the worse for wear.”
I would have walked out.
If that were me.
“Oh, in that case I’ll go somewhere else.”
and leave.
There are plenty of restaurants in Nashville.
My main question concerning their policy, is this: If they are asking people to be civilized and remove their hats, do they have hat racks? I like it when I go to a restaurant that is civilized enough to have racks for hats. They are few and far between these days.
I think that beanies are rather casual. I appreciate that the restaurant has a dress code-perhaps they could keep a small selection of more appropriate hats on hand, much as they do ties, for customers who arrive unprepared.
I remember eating at some “greasy spoon” type place that had a sign:”If you wear your hat while you eat at home, please do so here. We want you to feel at home”.
Never ate there, never will.. it’s a shame so many are so insensitive to others plights.
forced? They were not even allowed to leave??
