Donald Trump on 9/11: "You Will Find Out Who Really Knocked Down The World Trade Center"
Real Clear Politics ^ | 2/18/16 | RCP

Posted on 02/18/2016 8:38:36 AM PST by gridlock

At a Wednesday morning campaign event in Bluffton, SC, Donald Trump takes his relitigation of the Bush administration's record on 9/11 and Iraq to the next level, seeming to imply that we don't currently know who "really" committed the 9/11 attacks.

Trump says if he is elected: "you will find out who really knocked down the World Trade Center."

"It wasn't the Iraqis," he explained. "You may find it's the Saudis."

"They have papers in there that are very secret," he also said, referencing the 28 still-classified pages of the 9/11 commission report. "But you will find out."

Picture hearts here. The Bushes aren’t as innocent as they’ve been portrayed, either.

There were, at least, two lines of reasoning that were used in the leadup to the invasion of Iraq.

1. Iraq violated UN resolutions and sanctions, which is true, but did not merit a full-scale invasion of ground troops.

2. Iraq had an active WMD program which was false, but did merit a full-scale invasion because of the risk that WMDs would fall into the hands of terrorists, and in light of 9/11, this was intolerable. <-— So here is the 9/11 connection, used as a basis for an invasion of Iraq.

One might ask why North Korea was not similarly invaded because they also fell under 1 and 2 above.

As a former Bush supporter, I supported all efforts of the Bush Administration in the WOT. To me, they could do no wrong because war is never clean. Now the Middle East is a mess and Obama is to blame for that. Trump is right, Saddam was a bad guy but he kept Iran in check, thereby stabilizing the region.

What is uncomfortable is the “Bush lied, people died” meme blasted over and over again by such traitorous scum to America, to have to appear to agree with them? I don’t agree with them because democrats would have been against anything Bush or any republican president would do. If Bush had said we will not invade Iraq, democrats would have accused him of being in cahoots with Saddam, etc. I give them no credit whatsoever.

Even adjusting for the fact is that “Bush erred, and people were misled”, look at the result. We have a political system that is incapable of long-term occupations unless we have broken the spirit of the regions we occupy (Japan, Germany). Put it this way, if Bush had said we are going to do like the Romans and enslave the entire Arab population, put them on freight cars and move them to gulags and outlaw their awful religion, I would have supported it. But America is incapable of doing that. So then, what was the point of invading Iraq?

We could have leveled Saddam’s palaces and any other targets of opportunity to let him know we mean business, but occupy Iraq when their people are still carrying on business as usual? And then all it takes is for a democrat to occupy the White House before all hell breaks loose again. So we don’t have the political system to do what we did unless we have a dictator, and we don’t.

I have an ongoing argument with my brother who is a Green Beret and a wounded combat veteran, and his best friend, a highly decorated and also wounded combat veteran, about Vietnam. I, as a Rickover selected engineer and combat veteran (but never wounded) tell them that we lost Vietnam. They maintain we won there militarily, to which I say we abandoned the field to the enemy, we lost.

Same in Iraq. We won militarily, but we lost to the enemy. No matter how someone spins it, Bush is a loser. No matter how one spins it, Bush did not keep America safe on his watch. Some say, well, he didn’t have time to get the country together. Trump disagrees. After the 1st WTC bombing (1993), and after knowing Osama Bin Laden was going to find a way to attack America (which Trump predicted in 2000), America could have gone on a war footing and rounded up any and all suspects to terrorism; political correctness be damned. But Bush didn’t want to make waves, which is a family trait, and we paid the price.

I am ready to get behind Trump who I know without doubt, is a patriot and who loves our vets. There’s not even a question of that.

Trump has predicted there will be more 9/11’s, even worse. I believe him.

And I can guarangoddamtee anyone that if there should ever be a mushroom cloud over an American city, all the Trump trolls will scurry like cockroaches into hiding.

If Cruz even tries to make a campaign commercial out of this statement, Trump needs to sue his ass big time.

no one can criticize the almighty trump.

Sure they do, they do it all the time, 24/7. The networks, Mexico, politicians, academia, communist, socialist, those who want to destroy the U.S., you name it. You just just happen to agree with the wrong side.

Still doesn’t make sense to me. I don’t think it takes the inner sanctum of the intelligence community to have an idea that the Saudis and really all of the Arab/Islamic world is fairly screwed up. I think anyone with reasonable intelligence knows that in dealing with that part of the world you’re allegiance with one country for a particular purpose should 1) be tentative and 2) be done knowing that the same country could be your direct adversary in another conflict because these Arabs are nothing if not about conflict layered upon conflict.

Makes sense that Trump’s company would care about this but it certainly not much of a revelation on the political front.

gridlock: ““Your Boy” went off the rails because he said that 9/11 was used as a justification for the Iraq War, which is manifestly false.”

I don’t believe you are correct. My recollection is that there were many people talking up the fact that Saddam was aiding and abetting Al-Qaeida and may have been “harboring terrorists”. I don’t know if GWB actually used this for justification of the Iraq war but that was certainly the “word on the street”.

I addressed the 911 part first, and then went on to talk about Iraq.

They were not meant to be material to one another.

But what I said about both was true.

The principle causation behind 911 was the US, principally under Clinton, not fighting the enemy who was fighting us.

That was Clinton’s policy. He was the guy who first treated terrorism like it was a criminal act instead of an act of war...and then he did that for years.

Anyhow...best not to forget the things that led up to it..

[It’s becoming clear why the establishment hates Donald Trump so much. He is ready to blow the lid off the entire power apparatus and expose the traitors that are taking America under.]

Absolutely correct. Pray for his safety.

I’m fairly sure that the Iraq war 2 would not have happened without 9/11.

IMO, the problem was U.S. ‘regime change’, and was long before Clinton. He decided to side-step the issue, as many had done in the past, and this one ‘got us’. Course, I’m in the ‘take our bent-nose and worry about OUR borders/internals’ and enough w/ this B.S. policeman (no wonder nobody wants to do anything for themselves, good ol’ U.S.A. will come bail ‘em out w/ $$ and blood).

“Anyhow...best not to forget the things that led up to it..”

True that, FRiend

Bush administration invaded Iraq for 3 reasons:

1) Terrorism. Harbored, supported and trained terrorists. Abu Nidal. Salman Pak.

2) WMD threat. Which was exaggerated, yet WMDs were found in small amounts, like Polish troops finding shells with gas.

3) Saddam Hussein, evil dictator.

The biggest hypocrisy I personally noticed was the Bush administration going after terrorist sponsoring states after 9/11 (Bush doctrine) like Iraq, Yemen (Libya took itself off the list by complying with USA demands) but ignored the biggest boy, Iran. And Saudi Arabia with it’s Wahhabism and financial support of terrorism. Too many open ends.

Although Trump claims to have changed a few of his liberal positions, he apparently still believes most of the liberal news he heard when he was a Democrat.

Trump well likely have a sudden and fatal heart attack if he keeps saying he will expose the truth behind 9/11.
