The garment industry from all over the world moved to China long ago. Labor costs in the developed world drover the production overseas decades ago. Silly you.

Absolutely true that big government regulation and unions hurt our companies’ productivity. Liberals are waging a war on business. Cruz is a true conservative who is opposed to those things more than anybody. He is going to lift the burdens on business more than anybody. He’s said it over and over.
Please outline for me which tariffs on our products you want to try and get removed. I don’t know about any of them specifically.
I have absolutely no reason to believe that Cruz won’t get the best trade deals possible. He’s smart and strong and patriotic. Trump is a longtime crony capitalist and I suspect he will try to stick things in the trade deal to help his family’s business. I trust Ted, not Trump.

First the tie thing and now the book thing? Annie, I read Mein Kampf in high school along with Sun Tzu’s The Art of War, in college I read The Prince by Machiavelli and a little bit of The Book of Five Rings by Musashi. Using your logic right now I should be Kahn of Star Trek fame. The only difference between my reading habits and that of Trump is that he could afford to buy the books instead of visiting the library.

It was not even on Cruz’s radar until Trump made it an issue. He does not have a record of accomplishment like Trump does. Trump was talking about trade problems years before Cruz was even a Senator.
It isn’t a product by product issue...it is a nation by nation issue. China, Mexico, India, and others all in one way or another restrict our products...China is probably the worst. It isn’t always tariffs, it can be delayed inspections for perishables...common in China.
Cruz has not shown any real capability to make deals...Trump is literally one of the best negotiators in the world and truly understands what harm these trade deals do. Trump has great experience all over the world and will handle the situation. If, the establishment succeeds in sabotaging Trump’s campaign I will support if it is Cruz...but, reluctantly. I really, sincerely do not believe Cruz will get it done. Especially, his radical tax plan (I like but it won’t float this congress), or reduction in regulations...but, he would be better than Hillary...
Here's the facts. We were not the ones that said "I'll will make America Great again and I WILL BRING BACK THE JOBS. Know who said that?
But wait he don't believe that himself or he would bring them back tomorrow from any Company venture he now owns. Lead by example, as they say $$it or get off the pot.
None of us has said we are going to bring the jobs back, HE DID that is his CAMPAIGN PROMISE. If he were truthful about that he would now say, "look folks, I am going to lead by example and beginning tomorrow I will bring back those jobs", now that isn't to hard is it?
Now get off the we buy things made in other countries or we don't crap, we all do, it was the hand we were dealt, and I can't wait for the jobs to come back, but TRUMP won't do it or he would have already done so with his companies, but alas he does enjoy him some CHEAP LABOR.....

BTW, I’d like to remind everyone at this thread that the enemy is the Democrat Party and Hillary Clinton (as she herself stated last year). Trump isn’t, Cruz isn’t, Rubio and Kasich aren’t. While some of you may get some minor satisfaction calling others Trumpbots or Cruzios or whatever, these nasty little invectives accomplish nothing, they don’t further your argument and only serve Hillary’s wish to see a divided Republican Party.
What say we all agree to act all like adults who want to see this country survive and leave off the pejoratives? Like it or not, the Trumpbots and Cruzbots and all the other ‘bots are going to need each other to win...

Early 1900’s people from all over the world came here to work in the garment Industry. They produced all the garments for us and even the Russian Army during WW II. Remember the “Look for the Union Label” commercials? Nice American shirts for $10, but when they became higher priced than the $2.99 ones from Japan, average Joe Worker, looking to keep under budget chose the cheaper ones. Why buy 1 American for 9-10 dollars when you can buy 3 for the same price made in Japan. The owners of all the clothing factories were loosing money because they could not compete with the imports. The AFL CIO who controlled the garment industry were at a loss, because as the factories closed, the union members disappeared. The national stores competing to make profits had no choice because the customer who for the most part are the middle class, were looking for bargains, just like today. WE want a minimum wage of $15, but the person in Bangladesh is happy with 60 cents an hour. So if you want to make widgets here it will cost you about $150 or you can get them from Bangladesh for $15. Well if you were a business man, what would you do? Its only a mater of whether you are happy driving a 1999 Chrysler or a 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class. The real bottom line is we have priced ourselves out of the manufacturing market. Can we compete? YES! By putting tariffs on imports and using Added Value Tax. Its hard for me to believe we have to import steel while our own mills are closed. I can understand where Trump is coming from when he says lets make America Great Again. I only wish it was as easy as it was to come up with a slogan. The ultimate snake oil salesman? Really? Well he’s got a lot of competition, there are 537 more of them in DC.
Your recounting of the destruction of textiles in the US does not quite track with reality. Production was offshored not to lower prices but to increase profit margin. There was no era of choosing the cheap foreign shirt or the expensive US made shirt, US production slowly ceased as production was moved offshore, and prices did not drop, they slowly increased. The textile industry was largely non-union. The pay was low, the benefits minimal.
Waiting to see you demonstrate that.

Your math is way off. Ridiculous.
Labor for the average manufactured good in the USA is 8% of retail price. Take cars, union labor the most expensive kind, is 8% of the cars retail price. If you made the cars in Bangladesh they would be 8% cheaper. Your example of a 10X cost increase is border line psychotic.
Labor is a small part of the cost of a manufactured good.
Almost every other durable good labor is a very small component of the overall price of the good. The average for USA made product is that 6-8% of the retail price goes to cover labor.

Annie, do you really believe Trump was responsible for jobs leaving the country? Remember NAFTA? Clinton’s brainchild was passed in Congress with the Republican members pushing it through for him and Rush Limbaugh acting as the bill’s chief advocate on the radio. You say the present situation in the marketplace was the hand you were dealt. Well, this and other trade agreements are the hand Trump was dealt. He has to work within this environment and the rules set up by others. If he doesn’t he would’ve been bankrupt by now because his competition would certainly take advantage of cheap labor.
You say that Trump can make jobs in America happen tomorrow. If he does, will you and the others at this thread purchase his goods, even at an increased cost? It will cut into the family budget, but I know you will be first in line to buy his American made (and considerably more expensive) goods. Like you said annie, it’s time for you to lead by example, as they say $$it or get off the pot...
One more thing, one of the main reasons I’m voting for Trump is that, unlike every other candidate in this race, he’s less likely to already be in a donor’s back pocket. Who do you think your candidate is more concerned about, us or the people who will give him the means of continuing his quest for the White House? Every candidate is dependent on the ENORMOUS sums necessary to mount a campaign, and how many of those deep pockets supporting your candidate acquired their fortune the same way as Trump? If Trump is wrong to use cheap foreign labor to stay in business isn’t it equally wrong for your favorite son to accept money from the same source? If not, please explain it to me.

PRODUCTION has primarily moved OUT of the Country since the beginning inception of NAFTA in the early 90's under Clinton.
