In the name of the secular humanist religion of "human rights", some prisons in Norway have facilities that are better than most American hotels. The opinions of crime victims do not matter.
There is something fundamentally wrong in sending criminals to luxury resorts, which should instead be set aside to reward people who do good work in local communities.
From the BBC Website: http://www.bbc.com/news/magazine-35813470
"Two Norwegian institutions vie for the title of the world's "nicest" or "most humane" prison. Inmates on the prison island of Bastoey, south of Oslo, are free to walk around in a village-style setting, tending to farm animals. They ski, cook, play tennis, play cards. They have their own beach, and even run the ferry taking people to and from the island."
"In 2014 a Finnish TV company took a retired prison superintendent from New York, James Conway, to Halden. His verdict: "I don't think you can go any more liberal, other than giving the inmates the keys."
....He's startled by the steel cutlery in the kitchen, and the well-equipped workshop supplied with saws, pliers and metal files. "You don't have to bake them in a cake," he quips. In the inmates' music studio - with guitars, keyboards, drums and a mixing deck - he wonders whether it's "a little over the top".
"This is prison utopia. This is the best prison you could ever imagine - if you were an inmate," he says.
In order to have a truly Scandinavian society, you need to give convicted criminals a higher standard of living than many middle-class Americans.
I’ll wager that Hillary is hoping to be sent to a prison in Norway when her sentencing time comes.
America already provides people on welfare with a better standard of living than many people with jobs cab afford.
cab = can
Watch “Lillyhammer” on Netflix.
Very funny.
Filmed in Norway, and they make fun at the prison system.
Little Stevie Van Zandt stars.
.
“Three hots and a cot.”
But we have Chateau GITMO
More on Norwegian prisons: http://www.takepart.com/photos/worlds-most-luxurious-prisons/bastoy-prison-norway
This minimum security prison colony is located on Bastoy Island in the middle of the Oslofjord. It houses slightly over 100 inmates who live in small cottages and work on the prison farm. Sunbathing in addition to tennis, fishing and horseback riding are the preferred pastimes of the prisoners
Good. Let’s send our Guantanamo prisoners there so the Left can’t claim they are being “mistreated”. Hot and cold running Korans and prayer rugs plus cod to eat morning, noon and night.
If you’re homeless, prison in Norway seems like a great option.
One 4th of all prisoners on the planet are here. Prisons as hellish gang run places are always fun I theory. But ours turn out unuasable, unemployable, brutalized psychopaths.
They are onto something. We clearly do it wrong from our results.
One hot meal a day is sufficient. You could offer a second hot meal for those who are model prisoners and work hard on the farm or road crew.
I need broadband, hot chicks, and good wine.
Anything less is inhumane.
And like Richard Pryor said, "Thank God We Got Penitentiaries!"
Their philosophy is to remove criminals from society and counsel them in a healthy environment.
Our philosophy is to remove criminals from society and throw them into a cage surrounded by likely far worse criminals.
IMO, both types of prisons are needed in this country. Depending on the offense and history of the offender
Become so demanding that they release you early. Often send back bottles of wine that are just not quite right.
This Chateau le blanc 68 is supposed to be served slightly chilled, not room temperature!
Why would the inmates even try to escape?
I always thought that prisons and everyone involved in the prison system would seem to have a vested interest in brutalizing people. I mean, why wouldnt they absolutely want the recidivism rate to be as high as possible? It seems to me that is one way to get it, releasing broken folks. Do social workers want folks not to apply for social welfare programs? I dont know, maybe that is just conspiracy crap, and I don’t dig resorts either, which doesn’t seem like much of a deterent.
