Sigh. Droughts, yes. They always are an issue. But you plan for them by having surplus food. Just planting enough to get you to the next harvest is not sustainable.

The problem is foreign aid.

What do you call a Somalian with a chicken? A vegetarian.
What do you call a Somalian with two chickens? A rancher.

Heck, I’ve seen families around here just browse for meals at the convenience store.

“Just planting enough to get you to the next harvest is not sustainable. “

There used to be a meme showing empty bread shelves on the left and full shelves on the right. The caption read, “In socialism people wait on bread. In capitalism bread waits on people.” There is so much wrong with the failed African states there can probably never be a market economy. Then we have various states imposing their agenda. Europe pushed one country to allow grain from the US to rot in the ship’s holds because it was GMO. They held out their economic aid. The leaders weren’t starving and the aid makes them rich, so nobody hurt, right? That’s just one example. There are hundreds of how “help” from the west sabotages the local economy. Giving away free milk and baby formulae makes it impossible for entrepreneurs to sell their milk products, as another example.

Free stuff that sounds good in some senator’s office wrecks havoc when put into practice.

Of course assist in any sane way we can. But remember and make sure they know that since the industrial age began, there is no instance of human starvation that is not politically caused.

The world is beyond the era of natural causes for starvation. It can only be done politically today.

It’s not drought and erratic rains... it’s years of bad choices... AND idiots in the west who ‘bail them out and enable’ ONE MORE TIME bec ause they want to feel superior more than they want to offer real help.

So much for getting rid if all those white foreign farmers in South Africa. Eh? Sub South Africa is fully capable of feeding their people. It’s the people themselves that have caused their own disaster.

If the UN bigots would allow ENERGY DEVELOPMENT in the third world, agricultural development and self-sufficiency would follow.

But, the U.S. and U.N. loath the idea of third world population growth and cultural development, least they compete to retain the benefits of their own natural resources.

Another day, another "African food crisis." They're as regular as the tides, but in 4,000 years of ongoing starvation, the residents haven't managed to figure out how to

1) Stockpile food for the lean times;
2) Move.

And for the millionth time, the appeal goes forth to the world to bail these ignorant primitives out so they can continue to breed and produce yet another generation of ignorant primitives.

Sorry, but my boo-hoo well done run dry.

How China gives aid. And can anyone imagine us building a hydroelectric dam there and insisting an American company get the contract?

“As many Chinese analysts observe, the Foreign Ministry in recent years has been fighting fiercely for the authority to manage China’s foreign aid projects, which are currently under the purview of the Ministry of Commerce.

The intention of China’s aid to Africa is benign but not altruistic. China does not seek to use aid to influence the domestic politics of African countries or dictate policies. Instead, it truly hopes to help Africa achieve better development while avoiding meddling with the internal affairs of African countries through conditional aid. But on the other hand, China is not helping Africa in exchange for nothing. Chinese projects create access to Africa’s natural resources and local markets, business opportunities for Chinese companies and employment for Chinese labors. When Chinese officials emphasize that China also provides aid to countries that are not rich in natural resources to defuse international criticisms, they often forget to mention that China may have its eyes on other things which these countries can deliver, such as their support of Beijing’s “one China” policy, of China’s agenda at multilateral forums, and of China as a “responsible stakeholder.” In this sense, China’s comprehensive, multi-dimensional agenda of its aid to Africa defies any simplistic categorization. “

Across Africa, the worst food crisis since 1985 looms...

This can only mean one thing. That all the top recording artists of the world will come together in their limousines, their private jets and their entourages and collaborate on a sappy pop song that will win all sorts of Grammys and make everybody involved feel good about themselves.

>“I am worried the children will starve to death. I don’t know what to do,” said Matafle.

I suspect they will do what they always do, just keep pinching off more mouths to feed regardless of ability to feed them.

Across Africa, the worst food crisis since 1985 looms for 50 million

They should ask Rhodesia for some of their harvest, they produce enough to feed all of Africa, and still have some left over.
