A White House pool report Sunday said the aircraft appeared to come "within about 1,000 feet" of Air Force One. The Globemaster reportedly veered to Air Force Ones starboard side as the presidential aircraft traveled north from Florida. Veterans in the press cabin remarked they had never seen anything come that close, according to the report.
I would say beyond all doubt that this is a strange occurrence, a retired air force lieutenant colonel said of the incident.
Other White House officials on the flight included chief strategist Stephen Bannon, adviser Stephen Miller, national security adviser H.R. McMaster and Joe Hagin, the White House deputy chief of staff for operations.

Thanks. I do remember AF1 being escorted after the attacks on 9/11.
Thanks Al Baby.
I was thinking of a situation where a president was separated from his detail and accepted a ride in a civilian Cessna.
I admit it’s a stretch, but it does present the aircraft in the light I was considering. What would that aircraft be called?
Meant to say I measured them using Google maps.
Trump needs enhanced security due to deranged people whipped up by nevertrumpers and hateful media - There is no telling what may happen. I mean holding a gay dance party outside Ivanka’s home. WTH? Media taking potshots at Melania, the 10 year old, anyone.
Secret Service cannot even be trusted. The one agent said she wouldn’t take a bullet for him, and she is still employed by the SS. Media thinks it is cute.
Yes, I remember it too. I wasn’t sure.
It seems they no longer accompany Air Force One.
Good question. I’m pretty sure others would have come up with it too.
That would have been maybe a thousand miles away.
Now that I think about it, that actually was an odd occurrence. This area does not get a lot of airliner traffic but at one time there were four sets of contrails all going in different directions.
If I had been a little quicker, I could have got a shot of 3 planes in one picture. That has to be a bit unusual because of them not wanting to be too close to each other. Just coincidence I guess.
No, just dipping into my knowedge of such things. I read a lot as I can’t stand TV.

They did for Obama. It seems to me that AF1 is supposed to have at least a mile to the nearest plane in the area except for escort. The tanker had no business being so close so someone or equipment failed. Someone is in big trouble.
“Coast Guard One”

If on Navy aircraft, it's called "Navy One".
or....Marine One
Civil aircraft? Executive One.
I was ATC for 35 years, worked them several times....I know this stuff.
I thought they always had two armed escorts.
I had never heard of the Executive One designation before. I was curious.
Great. Thank you.

How far are planes routed away form AF1?
Okay, a question.
Would you say the plane within 1000 feet of Air Force One was probably following ATC at the time?
What would shoot it down? How would they shoot it down?
I will never forget the afternoon of 911 after grounding of all air traffic. My husband and I and hundreds of other in our community in central Ohio were at the gas station filling up. It was deadly quiet, suddenly some guy said look and way, way up was AF1 with fighter escorts. It was surreal and will never forget.
Reading that gave me the heebee geebees they got us good that day
Sometime in the mid/late ‘90s I was camping on the south rim of the Grand Canyon. Shortly after dark I heard and saw two large aircraft flying west-sw far faster than civilian aircraft fly and #2 was less than 1/4 mile directly behind #1. There were 2 fighter jets escorting them just off to either side of #2.
I puzzled on that for about a half a minute and concluded that it must be Bubba flying to LA.
No. Normally they do not. They are always under norad watch and they have jets along route they can scramble. But normally no armed escorts.
That’s literally awesome. Thanks for sharing.
