I want you to read this tweet, sent after todays MOAB drop and written by an American patriot and a man Im privileged to know, Johnny (Joey) Jones:
"I lost my legs because my gov't was afraid to use the tools they had and saw me as expendable. I wish I'd had this admin."
"We begged to use bombs on the minefield ghost town I lost my legs clearing."
...
By the way, I quote these tweets not to spark any anger against the man Jones is addressing, Daniel Riley (whos also a vet and amputee; he lost his legs to an IED in Afghanistan), but to highlight an important and painful point about our almost 16-year-long war. Excessive American caution has cost American lives and American limbs, and it has left families and friends of the victims with deep psychological wounds. Those wounds would be grievous enough in the best circumstances, but theyre compounded by the fact that many of the decisions not to shoot, not to use artillery, or not to drop bombs were based on a combination of rules of engagement and military misjudgments that were transparently foolish at the time.
To understand what our men in the field faced, you have to understand just a bit about the legal and command superstructure. First, the law of war defines the limits of military force in any context. Theyre designed to place outer boundaries on the conduct of any force in the field, not just America and its allies. In practice, however, only America and its allies comply with the law of war.
Second, rules of engagement place an additional restriction on the use of force. The rules cant be broader than the laws of war, only narrower. In Iraq and Afghanistan,

Substitute “ Colin Powell” for “ Bush”
Trump isn’t the first president to let generals make decsions
He just has better generals
Those of us who are Vets know this all too well. As was evidenced in WWII, the troops respect a leader who will get in your face when you screw up. Especially one who has already done his three cups of coffee and a cigar or two and really doesn’t care if you like it or not. Actually, he is really afraid of only the ones who do like it.
Patton was such a model of what we almost have in Mattis. Seeing Trump yesterday address the MOAB authorization decisions made me almost swoon with joy knowing he is letting the Generals make the important combat decisions while just letting him know what they are doing.
I think Obama’s doctrine was to always keep in mind that historically America is usually in the wrong and should act with head bowed and hands tied in international and especially military situations.
IIRC, Afghanistan is a UN mission.
So is the former presidential candidate (for a swift 4 minutes) glad Trump is prez?
The surprise tactic is key too. It puts the fear of god in the enemy as they never know when a MOAB is going to come knocking. And it doesn’t give the media and the activist left any time to ramp up a campaign and talking points against the strategy.
Yep - I remember them testing the MOAB during Bush years and saying it could be used to clear mine fields too - Trump is the first President who thinks winning is a good thing since Reagan.
The sooner the members of the Traitorobama regime are indicted, tried, convicted, sentenced, and publicly hanged for giving aid and comfort to the enemy, the better off this nation will be.

I have nothing but contempt for the idiots who gave us eight years of Obama.
It has been said that a nation can survive an occasional fool like Obama or Carter bungling about, but a nation cannot survive having a majority of the electorate being so stupid as to re-elect such a buffoon.
Obama’s restrictive rules of engagement have resulted in the maiming and death of too many of our military men - it is pleasing to finally have a president who trusts our military leadership to use their best judgement and discretion to carry out the Commander’s Intent and complete the mission.
Spot on.
This idea of the laws of ware is insane. The only law should be total victory in whatever form that needs to take.
The idea that civilians are not legitimate military targets simply is absurd. Where does the army of the opposition come from and where do they gain support?
Back then the press was heavily Republican and very anti-Truman. I just finished reading his biography and to my surprise he reflects upon the press as Trump does today!
We sure didn’t worry about civilians in Dresden or Japan.
MOAB and Tomahawk were both a heads-up for the norks.
And Iran...
Seems like laws of war are mostly a Christian thing. Once there were Christian cultures willing to war on one another, what role would Christian values play? Ironic, isn’t it, that today’s laws of war are just another form of cultural imperialism?
The OT did prescribe laws of war for Jews, even against pagans, but God did explicitly suspend most of them for moral outrage. There is no indication however, that such laws applied outside of the Land of Israel, or that there was permission to suspend them anytime in the future.
