Hahahahaha, so if the polls showed him up 20 points but the actual result was the same as real life, you’d say the polls were great? That’s amusing.

I think he won NH/NV/MN and the national popular vote, beyond that, iffy. Fraud is not magic, or else dems would never lose.

The media could have been heavily biased in his favor and Clinton still takes CA/MA/MD/HI/VT at the very least. Hellholes.

I’m guessing they polled the 50-60 million illegal aliens in the country without asking their status. We know they didn’t ask their status at the voting booth.

So, you may be right. The polls were pretty close. /s

Agreed. It doesn’t remove the problem. Just puts it in the hands of political peers rather than the voters.

The 17th amendment was passed because senators had become feudal barons. They never had to face the voters. They were free to use patronage and graft to stay in office forever. The state legislators became their servants, dutifully returning them to office every 6 years in return for cash and patronage jobs.

President Andrew Johnson had a lot do with this situation since his southern sympathies led to Congress taking over the federal government. Some senators became more powerful than the President and could dictate what the executive branch did.

Its astonishing that this amendment ever passed Congress.

What evidence was there of cronyism prior to the Seventeenth? It’s one thing to assert it, but yet another to prove it.

ROFLMAO

Try LMGTFY.com then get back to me on:

1. When was the 17th amendment first conceived?

2. What year did it pass.?

3. What President is largely considered the most corrupt that actually fomented thoughts of the 17th amendment? [hint: It was civil war related]

4. What role did Article V regarding Constitutional conventions have in getting the 17th amendment to pass?

5. What is the historical reason that the 17th amendment was first conceived?

You do a little legwork and all your questions will be answered. Act like the lazy researcher like you are and you'll get no more from me. Now get off your rear end and do some work educating yourself on the matter..

I believe the 17th should be repealed because the corrupt cronyism through the direct election is worse and anti-state -- but primarily the ability for Candidates to solicit campaign contributions nation wide is the real problem with today's corruption.

None of those questions point to my question. Are there any examples of pre-Seventeenth Amendment cronyism? and to expand upon that, did the amendment in question solve them or actually make them worse (or instead create its own problems)?

As for who supported the Seventeenth, you’ve got left-wing parties such as the Populist Party and progressive Democrats such as William Jennings Bryan citing alleged corruption in state governments, which can’t really be regarded as credible. Never mind media people like William Randolph Hearst pushing the idea.

BTW, your ad hominem indicates that you have no answer.

Get off your rear end dude. I’ve read your arguments many times to others and know what you’re about. All you’ll do is argue Tautologies, tortured logic and lazy reasoning.

You can find out what you need in 5 minutes and a browser. I’m not going to do it for you.

Done with you. Take your your last shot or two. But i’m done with you.

OK then; I get ad lapidem and false accusations as a response. So much for my asking a simple question. Sounds like I am supposed to regard the very movement towards the 17th Amendment as having legitimacy, but every time I look up the circumstances of that movement, I see none whatsoever—but a lot of false accusations, infiltration by leftists at the state and federal levels, newspaper opinion-mongering, and empty populist promises.

At least you have a logical answer for repealing the amendment in question, so I am glad about that.

Speaking of crooked senators, in the 2nd Star Wars trilogy it was the senator from Naboo who was the sith lord and was pulling the strings behind the curtains to get himself elected as chancellor of the senate to do the other things.

We have many evil senators in the usa with McPain being the foremost evil one in the pack. We see him meeting with the leaders of ISIS and other radical groups and colluding with the democrats in front of everyone as if it's no big deal.

I agree the 17th amendment must be repealed but like most ‘journalists’ today, this one falsely conflates Senator to be Moore with the need to repeal that amendment.

It is a typical article from a writer who can not think critically.

Not that Roy Moore is a debacle - who knows, without the 17th amendment he may have chosen by the Alabama state legislature - but on general principles, yes, repeal the 17th amendment. It will help restore the role that the STATES, as political entities, were suppose to have in the Senate.

I would then add another new amendment pertaining to Senators, once their selection is restored to the states. Add an amendment outlining the powers of states to recall and change their senators, off schedule; giving in that outline reasons of cause for which it could be done.

Repealing the 17th amendment, and its evil sister the 16th amendment, would go along way to restoring the republic.

This has nothing to do with the Alabama Senatorial election.

Mitch McConnell does not control the Kentucky State Legislature.

Or the Alabama legislature.

Your state senator is a lot closer to you than the ones in the DC swamp. They even answer phone calls. They are much more responsive to the electorate.

Well, the argument for appointment of Senators as opposed to election is very strong, and I understand the frustration of "repeal XVII" people since their goal is vanishingly unlikely to happen,

BUT

That cause has nothing to do with the contrived GOP hit job on Judge Moore, and appointment of Senators by State Legislators would by no means be a safeguard against men of low character, when you consider the character of the (proposed) electorate.
