Credible, my butt.
I’m not sure I understand how Roy Moore is a debacle.
To agree with this article, you have to accept a flimsy premise, that Moore is guilty of the charges of obscene and reprehensible behavior. I’m not sure I accept the premise in the first place.
Wouldn’t matter. You could have a Roy Moore problem with a representative, a governor or a dog catcher. Removing the popular vote for Senators eliminates nothing.
I totally agree. Senators look out for themselves, are the playthings of lobbiests. The states are not represented
Yeah right,
So we can give a free check to Mitch McConnell and let him choose?
Or give any other group of people already in the senate the power to keep and protect their status quo?
Elections are about change. If we are displeased with the current power structure in the senate we vote and change it,
So to the author of this article: No! Heck No!
I’m praying for a Moore win.
They despise him because he can’t be pushed around.
They hate anyone that is MAGA,
I want Bannon to succeed in primarying many RINO a-holes next election.
There are no political parties now....there are just those that stand with Trump and his values and those that support the deep-state.
I agree with repeal of 17th.
I disagree with idea that Moore is a debacle...the debacle is the nature of the GOP-E.
Ive said this for years. The two worst mistakes ever made were the ratification of the 16th and 17th Amendments.
Dont even get me started on the 19th....
L
I’m all for ditching the 17th amendment. Though I would argue there are about 90 senators who are far worse disasters than Moore.
Mitch McConnell does not control the Kentucky State Legislature.
No you don’t. Just toss away everything in the article except for repealing the 17th would make our country great again.
It was the Seventeenth that gave us people like McConnell and his inordinate power; people like him wanted it. If not for that, he would have to represent his state and his state alone, and have zero power in DC.
There are lots more reasons to support the repeal of the Seventeenth than the one listed in the headline, and the one in the headline is not one at all. Not all Senators were appointed prior to the Seventeenth, furthermore. The Seventeenth got rid of our republic and pushed it closer to a “democracy”.
I have been getting bombarded over on Twitter with this crap. The only thing more screwed up than John McCain and Jeff Flake is the Arizona legislature.
Who in the world wants to give state capital elites the power to elect senators? Ours would just send McCain and Flake back forever. And we would have no way to remove them.
A constitutional amendment decided this, for crying out loud.
The Seventeenth turned the Senate into a Politburo, where states had to lobby to grab back the power and representation that was snatched from themand even worse, left them competing with foreign lobbies. It was a bad idea with no purpose other than the centralization of power and taking away power from the states.
The Federalist is losing ITS OWN credibility by publishing bilge such as this. Judge Moore is not the debacle or the villain here. The villains are the corrupt Mitch McConnell and the entirety of the Swamp trying to destroy Moore to protect their Swamp from incoming Swamp Drainers.
Ummm, if the 17th Amendment weren’t passed, we would not have Obamacare today. Any senator who was for it, could have been pulled in and removed by their state.
Senators were never intended to be direct-elected. That was for the House of Representatives. Senators were supposed to represent their state.
The author stretches the meaning of “credible’ to the breaking point.
Yeah, maybe representing a small fraction of the obscenity and reprehensibility of the Kennedy's behavior, starring and including JFK. How can this pass? How can this pass? This is nothing but a reign of terror.
