Turkey INVADES Syria – tanks and soldiers cross the border
Daily Star Uk ^ | Jan. 21, 2018 | Rachel O'Donoghue

Shocking pictures show dozens of tanks and armoured vehicles crossing over the border in a terrifying display of military might.

But the Syrian-Kurdish YPG militia has denied there is a full-scale invasion underway, claiming forces clashed in Afrin but Turkish soldiers were beaten back.

YPG official, Nouri Mahmoudi, said "all the Turkish military's ground attacks against Afrin have been repelled so far and they have been forced to retreat."

A statement from the militia said: "Our people are holding on to their land and do not accept surrender... we repeat our determination to protect our people in Afrin against the attacks."

Turkey has claimed the massive movement of military hardware into the country is simply to create a 30km-deep "safe zone" in the north of the country.

....”What are American soldiers accomplishing?”.....

Until there’s a solid agreed negotiated settlement with each will retain their foothold in Syria in one degree or another in case things flare up as they’re doing now.

Turkey is no friend to any trying to negotiate as Erdogan wants Syria control entirely.

If anything, those facilities the US has within Turkey should be on lockdown, Too much is at stake to allow the Turks to gain access to the assets the US maintains there, which I believe, also includes nuclear weapons.

Turkey’s invasion of Syria is in pursuit of the Kurdish militia, the Peshmerga, which are very solid allies of the US forces in Iraq and Syria. While the Turks are fierce and even vicious fighters, they almost always come off badly when they engage directly with the Peshmerga, who are even more fierce and vicious, and it may prove to be a bridge too far for the Turks. Erdogan already has a very serious problem managing the Kurds within Turkey, and may have opened up a can of whup-azz on himself before this is settled.

When things are a little too quiet, kick the hornets’ nest. Yeah, that’s the ticket.

....”Erdogan’s been waiting for an opportunity. If he thinks he can push across the Syrian border and not get a forceful response (publicly or otherwise) from PDJT he’s as wrong as can be.”....

I agree...Erdogan will do all he can to create further unrest in Syria if he doesn’t like the way things are shaping up favorable to His own personal agenda of conquest .

Erdogan rides the Nato horse ONLY to get himself positioned where he can carry out his own agenda for conquest. He has proven no matter what the people of Turkey think he will indeed continue with that agenda.

They should have never let Turkey in as a Nato member to begin with....

Yes it is....they’re just not calling it an invasion....but those who are familiar with Erdogan’s style and agenda know perfectly well all his actions are from the position of conquest to serve his agenda of being the great Sultan over the areas .

The timing reflects Turkey’s increased frustration with our forces support for Kurdish forces in Syria, who are now in control of nearly 25 percent of the country, in areas that straddle the Turkish and Iraqi border.

Turkey, according to Estrogen, is going take the entire northern strip under Kurd control from the east to the west, putting them in direct conflict with the 30,000 troops we have stationed in Northern Syria.

So far only a relative few of the obsolescent Turkish armored vehicles have crossed, and a couple have already been destroyed. How they will far against modern anti-tank missiles the Kurds have been given is unknown but likely not too well. So it will come down to how many Turkish troops Estrogen is willing to sacrifice.

On this site we like the Kurds and we don’t like or trust the Turks. If you’re Turkish though, or allied with Russia, you most likely see them as terrorists because the Kurdish part of Turkey want to separate. But these are Kurds living in Syria we’re talking about right now.
