Young people are not ready to handle certain things huh... How about telling that to all the THOUSANDS upon THOUSANDS of families, whose sons and daughters served their country under the age of 21. Tell that to the thousands upon thousands of families, whose sons died in combat under the age of 21. Yes please tell them their loved ones were to young to handle joining the military and going off to war. Please tell them they were too young to handle the responsibility of protecting this nation. I myself joined the Marines at 17. I left the military for the last time in my 40’s. My Son joined the Army at 18. I served in Combat at 18 in Lebanon and again in Iraq at 40, My son served in Iraq when he was 18. SO TELL ME THAT NEITHER I NOR MY SON WERE NOT ABLE TO HANDLE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF HANDLEING A FIREARM AND SERVING OUR COUNTY. After all, you just made a generalization that young people are not ready to handle certain things.

it can raise the age as high as it wants...

Actually it can't. Many states have laws against age related discrimination. What Walmart is doing is an example of that.

You won't see media outrage because of their leftist beliefs. But just imagine if Walmart decided not to sell some product to:

Women
Gay People
People over 55 years old
African Americans
Catholics

to take it a step further...

“the right of the people to keep and bear arms...”

does not have a age restriction at all.

When I was 14, I went to a military academy. They issued us all M-1 rifles (an actual battle weapon). We kept them in our personal room lockers.

After my third year there we switched over to M-14 E-2s, capable of full auto fire. In the five years I was there, (High school and Junior College) no one was ever shot with one.

The local “townies’ didn’t screech in fear when we occasionally marched down main street carrying them in a parade. Even the Democrat politicians thought it was all a great idea.

In the second half of our H.S. Senior year and Junior College years, we were even allowed to bring our own personal weapons and store them in our personal lockers. I usually had a handgun and at least one, usually two additional rifles in my locker. (I was 17 years old when I was first allowed by the academy to possess my own firearms in addition to the one issued.)

We could take them to the ROTC Department’s indoor range and practice any time we had a free period and there wasn’t a class being taught on the range, and could go out plinking out in the nearby desert during free time on weekends.

But then, none of us were on Ritalin or any other psychoactive drugs, and discipline was something enforced by our peers as much, if not moreso than by our cadre NCOs, officers and instructors.

I think Congress should say, “okraise age to but a gun and raise age to 21 to vote.” Age raise will die very quickly and off the front age in hours.

Maybe they should raise the age to 21 for voting in your state too since you have that view.

I was wondering if one can do this. If I owned a liquor store could I decide that I will not sell to anyone under 25. In this challengable in court.

The focus is on guns and gun control again.

Let’s make guns illegal. This effort is a waste of time. If a kid, or an adult, is determined; they can and will find a way to obtain a gun regardless of gun laws. There are millions of guns hidden away, it is impossible to find and destroy them all. Guns will not go away as long as people need them for protection and survival.

Let’s make ownership illegal. This won’t work either. When gun ownership has been legislated out of existence, the average John Doe will not be able to buy, sell, or own a gun legally. But criminals and felons will because they will ignore the law. Without a gun, law abiding citizens will be defenseless and at the mercy of those who legally or illegally possess a gun.

Do you see where this is going? The only people who will have the guns are the King, his royal family and court, the loyalist nobility class (1 percent elites / land owners), and the knights of the realm (the appointed security / law enforcers). The rest will be serfs or slaves who serve the above without benefit of representation; that is if they are not executed outright as rebels (terrorists). Welcome to the new progressive form of government. Possibly, there may be enough survivors left to start CW2, then again, maybe not. Not a pretty picture either way.

We need more focus on the kids, not gun control. It’s the kid with the unmanageable issues at school you want to find and treat. Why not get the teachers some added psychological training if that will help. But don’t expect teachers to be professional psychiatrists even though most already know which kids in their classes are problem children and/or not acting their usual self. They can be a valuable tool in identifying students who need help beyond the classroom.

If the school district could afford to hire and staff a professional psychiatrist, the teachers could request a formal evaluation by the school psychiatrist to determine what is going on. It may be nothing or it may be something. If it turns out to be something, then corrective action could be taken.

In the meantime hiring more security guards and letting teachers pack heat may be the only interim solution.

“If you are too young to be trusted with a gun, you are too young to be trusted with a vote.”

True..........but how can retailers unilaterally change the age.....where’s the Law?
