Nearly two weeks ahead of their day of nationwide racial bias training, coffee chain Starbucks is facing new accusations of racism after a Latino customer discovered a racial slur written on his coffee order.
A Latino man named Peter received a cold coffee drink labeled “BEANER.”
“En español es ‘frijoleros’, ‘beaner,’ you know, in English,” said the victim’s friend Miguel Acosta.
“He went to Starbucks, and they asked for his name, and his name is ‘Peter,’ and they wrote this ‘beaner,’ Acosta told CBS2 News through a coworker who was translating. “And he’s saying that’s not fair.”
Acosta said his friend didn’t deserve such treatment and doesn’t understand why he was targeted.
“Mi amigo está triste también,” said Acosta. “My friend is also sad.”
Patrons at the La Cañada Starbucks Wednesday were taken aback by the news.
“I’m shocked,” said one woman. “I go to that Starbucks almost every day.”
It was a misspelling. The barrista saw the customer drive up in a Beemer.
Maybe he had an expensive German car and said “beamer”.
If he’s a Latino, how come his name isn’t “Pedro”. Isn’t he culturally appropriating?
“Awwww, pwoor wittle bwaby.”
Nooo. Not on this one.
That is just unprofessional and juvenile.
It’s like if they wrote “Teabagger” or “Tumpanzie” on something for one of us.
I’m not sure what people here think they are hankering back to, but there was no past time where doing something like this was see as acceptable.
I remember the good old days when you could call a Beaner a Beaner.
In our church, our church band guitar player who is of Mexican heritage, is fond of saying “Como frijolais” (not sure of the spelling)
He says it translates to - “How you bean”. And says it with a heavy “Cheech” accent.
I laugh way too hard for church every time I hear that.
“His name is Peter sure, but he probably told the employee Beaner, so the employee fell for it and wrote Beaner.”
No good deed goes unpunished today! We have raised a generation of self-absorbed loons. I just hope that Trump can make America go a little longer so I don’t have to watch it’s demise in my declining years.

We just had a guy wearing a MAGA hat called the N-word, and no one here was laughing at this.
This type of stuff from restaurant staff seriously needs to stop or else a bunch of these places are going to go broke from boycotts and lawsuits, leaving lots of innocent workers unemployed.
Nope. Both his folks are Mexican. His dad, Oscar Marin, was LAPD. His mom, Elsa, was a nurse.

Especially when said Beaner has a thick Spanish accent and poor English skills.
I could easily see this being an innocent misunderstanding.

Yesterday I saw that report on TV and definitely heard yanny. Later I was reading on FR about Story’s pole dance on the white house lawn with the steady flow of Brinks trucks delivering one dollar bills to the mainstream media and it came on again and I definitely heard laurel.

As an aside, it’s not a racial slur. Mexicans are not a race. *If* it happened (doubtful) this was your garden variety insult. BFD.
They should have written “whiny beaner”. LOL
The friend will also be suing because his feelings were hurt..the Commie local media was kissing their behinds last night awwwwwwwwwwwwwwww poor whittle babies, Beaner, could be the employee misunderstood his name and thought OK his name is Beaner

I haven’t heard the phrase ‘beaner’ in 30 years. You’re right, the clerk probably just heard the word beaner in the noise of the store. Not that I don’t mind seeing Starbucks spinning in the wind with every new accusation. There will be more because they’ve been exposed as a weak target that won’t fight back.
Maybe they thought he was from Boston!
Something doesn’t add up here.

The time on that coffee cup says otherwise.
Patient got pissed and started calling the guy a &^%ing slant eyed gook. It escalated from there. Only broken dishes, part of the counter, all the food, trays, soda machine,a few other miscellaneous items tables, chairs, a car, and some scrapes and bruises were hurt. For some odd reason we were blackballed.
