Missouri Gov. Eric Greitens resigns, ending political career once aimed at presidency
KC Star ^ | 5/29/18 | Jason Hancock

Eric Greitens stormed into the governor’s office in January 2017 vowing to clean up a state government he said was corrupt.

He resigned Tuesday just as abruptly as he had arrived on Missouri's political scene, his career buried under an avalanche of scandal and felony charges.

Mike Parson, 63, a fellow Republican and former sheriff who served 11 years in the General Assembly before being elected as lieutenant governor in 2016, will take over as Missouri’s 57th governor. He’ll finish Greitens’ term, which runs until January 2021.

A Rhodes scholar and former Navy SEAL, Greitens was once considered one of the brightest stars in the Republican Party — a rock star who traveled the country campaigning for his fellow GOP governors, all while building his national profile and donor base for an almost inevitable run at the White House.

We are in south central Missouri, but get to Springfield often.

We get a lot of fugitives from the big cities and California here. They come here because they want to run their own lives and be left alone.

We also have a large conservative Christian Russian community here.

“What’s wrong with a Rhodes Scholar? It’s a high honor for educational achievement.”

So was Bill Clinton and what a piece of feces he turned out to be.

I was hollering about Aikin getting out, too, but got no support that I recall.

You said “We have many talented and capable candidates in Missouri...why can’t they get past the primary?”

Have you ever been to Rep. Headquarters in Springfield? I went in 08 - for the LAST time. Wanted to help. (Actually wanted to get Sarah Palin elected, period.) Wanted a yard sign. They had none, except for some simpering little “Kenny” guy they loved running for some state office, I forgot now. They all hated Sarah Steelman. The Rep. groups in MO. (at least in the Ozarks) seem to be little cliques for their favored local candidates and not much else. The delegate meeting in 2016 was the same. The Tea Party rallies earlier were the same. They are not thinking Big or Wide; they are thinking Small and Narrow, and their best pals. Sorry, but that’s what I see.

I'm very sorry Greitens’ career came to a stop today but he sowed the seeds of his own destruction. Once a classy guy. Now with a reputation destroyed.

Pitiful...

I haven’t ever been to Rep. HQ in Springfield, but have worked at our local HQ in times past.

I know the Kenny you are talking about, he is a former colleague of my husband. We went to a local rally for him and other Republican candidates that year in a public park. Brought our lawn chairs and set them up a little distance from the pavilion. A fellow with cameras crept up behind us and used us for cover to try to spy and film the proceedings. He was undoubtedly sent by Democrats to try to get something incriminating on tape. We had to move our chairs and belongings in order to expose him. I guess he thought we were too naïve to know what he was doing. It was a weird experience.

The Democrat proved they were capable of some nasty work.
Remember Clair’s last opponent ?
She elected him...

A real warrior cuts his hair with his sword.... Well, actually, I cut my hair with a pair of US made Wahl Army issue SS clippers. The manual kind I appropriated from a pawn shop in 1987 in West Germany during REFORGER 88, which I have use to cut my hair since, even today as a retired old (er)fart.

I think I saved about $10k over the last 30 years....

It wasn’t Mark Foley that wrecked the party in 2006. It was Bush43 embracing amnesty. You cannot betray your party base.

“I have family in Missouri, one of best states in America...”

... if you like corruption and graft.

Lived in St. Louis for a while. Corrupt as hell.

A real man uses a barber or has his wife cut his hair with a $30 pair of clippers. Just saying.

I recall thinking that to myself in a self-deprecating way the first time my wife cut my hair -- or anyone else's for that matter!

(It came out ok, and now she's very good at it, if not the quickest in the world.)

I wonder if any of the Carnahan siblings run in 2020...

I think they're pretty much out of it.

Hope Hawley’s one of the good guys.

He gives indications that he is. The worry for me is that he's run for office exactly once - the AG race and that's hardly prime time. Now he's going to be in one of the most closely watched races in the country and the question is whether he's up to doing that without making a major gaff.

DA Gardner received almost $250K campaign contribution from Soros. A couple months later she convened the Grand Jury that indicted him.
And then there is the $120K in cash passing through the lawyers hands who represented husband of Greitens accuser....

And never doubt the union involvement in this mess. Greitens worked for and signed, Right to Work legislation. Unions fought him with everything they had. Still are via a ‘ballot issue’ as a result of obtaining a sufficient number of signatures.

No, there never was a photo. But Greitens accuser said,”I may have dreamed it.” Guess that makes it so.

Steelman is presently Commissioner of Office of Administration in Jeff City. She oversees 7 different agencies. Appointed by Gov. Greitens.
