What's blooming en masse here at present are the crocosmia. My stepmother, who sent them, calls them coral bell lilies or something like that. It's too bad the blooms are so small because they're very pretty. You have to practically stick your nose up to them to see their beauty.
Gardenias pretty much have to be grown inside here, or at least brought inside during winter. It gets a little too cold for them here. I had one years ago but the cats eventually killed it. :-(
We could get rain in the morning but it will be a roaster in the afternoon. We kind of hope for no rain because it will make it reeeeeeeally steamy outside. UGH!
It’s fun watching the place change from week to week as they unpack more items to display. I haven’t been to the shop building since the guys went to Tupelo a couple of weeks ago to see how large the mountain of crates is now. It was huge when I went out there several weeks ago and they haven’t unpacked many. It takes time to go through all the items in each crate to inventory everything so it’s a slow process.
They’re going back down this weekend for more!
The guys were excited about the radio, and the x-ray machine as well. There’s SO MUCH stuff at Tupelo, they really don’t know what they’ve got until they go down to pack it up to bring here. The collection was a package deal.
Those are a gorgeous color! I see what you mean about tiny blooms. What a shame the kittehs killed your gardenia plant. I think they’re pretty delicate anyway, huh?
We have some called Yellow Bells but if they have another name, I don’t know it.
My lavender has been blooming since spring and it’s funny how the blooms are on very long skinny stalks. The same stalks just keep having the tiny purple flowers on them. I think when summer is over I’ll bring all the stems in and try to dry them. Love that fragrance, too. And I didn’t realize it, but the leaves smell awesome, too!
You have a very efficient work station going on there! Just think...our heroes WORE those uniforms. Sort of puts it in perspective, huh.
They really brighten up the beds on the two sides of the front porch. They’re the only thing blooming in those beds at present and there are a gazillion of them. They are VERY prolific flowers.
Yes, gardenias are pretty delicate and if the cats hadn’t killed them, I probably would have. LOL! I don’t have the greenest of thumbs.
LOVE the fragrance of lavender and tried to grow some several years ago. I don’t know if they weren’t getting enough sun, the ground was too wet, what was going on but I had no luck with it. Lucky you having a bunch to dry and place throughout the house.
Not much is needed to do the work. A table to lay the uniforms on, a lint brush and lint roller, and a LOT of roller refills. LOL
What I’m going to need SOON is something more to hang them on upstairs. They have another 10 foot pipe to hang from the ceiling, like the one that’s already full, but they haven’t hung it yet. The clothing racks came from a K-Mart that closed down earlier this year but they didn’t get nearly enough.
It’s why I’m trying to learn what I can in order to help out as a tour guide. Cleaning is about to come to a screeching halt.
As I clean each piece, I wonder about who wore it, where they were when they wore it, how their life went afterwards, etc. It’s all very humbling.
((HUGS))Good morning, Ladies. Thanks for this morning's thread, Star. How's it going?
If you are interested, keep an eye out for “The Thai Rescue Operation”. I forgot to write down the channel. It was pretty interesting. I’ll watch for it again.
Right now, I only have 2 lavender plants, and only one of them bloomed. Hubby transferred the other from a pot to a bed and I think that kept it from blooming this year. I hope they continue to do well. They’re supposed to repel mosquitoes, but so far I haven’t seen much difference. My legs are covered in bites. They even bite when I have repellent on! Stupid things!
Think I’ll go to sleep soon. I got up before the alarm went off this morning, so I’m really drooping now. See ya tomorrow!
?
The doc said he would fax the referral to PCLI, Pacific Cataract and Laser Institute. When he referred me there for my cataract surgery, I realized that is where I had my lasik done. I figure they should have it Monday, so I’ll give them a call later in the week.
Beautiful lilies, Luv...
Yes, I’m interested. I kept a fairly close eye on that as it went on. It’s still amazing they were able to get them all out alive. A lot of planning, skill, and luck that was on their side and there was a very happy ending.
WOW! That’s a lot of uniforms! Sure does keep you busy.
I haven’t heard that lavender is supposed to repel mosquitos. I know there’s a type of geranium that does and it seemed to work pretty well when I grew some a few years ago. Mosquitos don’t bite me for whatever reason but they bump me. The scent of the geraniums kept them from doing that.
Bummer only one of your plants bloomed this year. Maybe once the other one is established in the ground it will bloom again.
Hope Peaches is outside tonight! LOL!
Sleep well and we’ll see ya tomorrow.
Maybe they’ll be able to schedule it soon so you can get it out of the way.
It’ll be nice if the recovery period is shorter than after the initial surgery. I reckon you’ll still have to do the eye drops for a while.
I’ve done more than what’s bagged and hanging upstairs. A lot are on display already.
Knowing there are at least four more crates full of them is a bit daunting. They cram a lot of uniforms into each one. I hope I live long enough to complete the task! LOL
My hope is they’ll get the one full of WWI uniforms in there next. There are only a couple on display now and there are plenty of uniforms from the other eras on display or cleaned and ready now.
The stories they could tell...
