The Weldon Cooper Center for Public Service of the University of Virginia analyzed Census Bureau population projections to estimate each states likely population in 2040, including the expected breakdown of the population by age and gender ... we see that, in fact, the [US] population will be heavily centered in a few states.
Eight states will have just under half of the total population of the country, 49.5 percent, according to the Weldon Cooper Centers estimate. The next eight most populous states will account for an additional fifth of the population, up to 69.2 percent meaning that the 16 most populous states will be home to about 70 percent of Americans ...
... [the] point is clear: 30 percent of the population of the country will control 68 percent of the seats in the U.S. Senate. Or, more starkly, half the population of the country will control 84 percent of those seats ...

I didn’t say he originated it. The Romans, at least, didn’t starve the farmers, though.
Illinois? Illinois is LOSING people. It is in a net decline, population-wise.
Liberals pretend to defend the minorities but oppose defenses against the tyranny of the majority. The left is truly schizophrenic.
and in 1790 VA, MA, PA, NY, MD had much of 3.9 Million pop but that is why house increased to 105. It was taken care of in the Constitution.

On the right, the last 30 years of gloBULList “free Trade” and de-industrialization it caused, has hollowed out small-mid sized cities. On the left, socialism festers in s cities so the right is feeding the left. Both sides are urbanizing the USA. A pox on both their houses.
Free Traitors, that infest the Republican Party, are a huge threat to the republic and freedom in general of all Americans. I consider you a prime example of that sub human sect.
And even with a loss of 2 to 3 million residents, California will still be the most populace state.
To me, this is unbelievable. I just do not understand why people would move there given the vast number of legal controls the state and local governments have enacted.
I can understand why many people would have difficulty leaving since they have built a life there. I just wonder why the next generations are deciding, for the most part, to stay.

Illinois will not be one of those states. The outflow (net population loss) from this state in favor of Florida, Tennessee, Texas and Arizona will see to that.

So? Right now half the population lives in 9 or 10 states.
Really, why do so many of the big banks remain in New York? Why does Silicon Valley retain its hold? There are leading companies in both of these industries, and many smaller companies, that do business elsewhere; there is no functional reason a company has to stay. And given the costs, the quality of life pressures for people with average to upper middle class incomes, and the toxic political climate, I would have expected more of the legacy companies to have departed.
Such decisions are complicated, but I suspect a wealth effect is an important factor. Places like NYC and San Francisco are fun and high status playground cities for the very wealthy, and the big companies are managed by very, very wealthy people. Most of their employees would be better off working elsewhere. The company might well be better off, certainly in terms of taxation, if it were located elsewhere. But top management often lets personal considerations intrude.
In Spain they learned in 1936 that “the hinterland” fed the cities - and the hinterland starved them into submission by early 1939.
In the last 60 years, NYS has lost almost half its Congressional districts and the House seats that go with them.
I can’t wait for Cuomo to announce. Trump should hang Upstate around Cuomo’s neck.
There’s a Firefox add-on/extension called bypass paywall.
Works like a champ.
Thanks. Georgia and Pennsylvania were the two I missed.
We feel that even in populous states like Pennsylvania. Philadelphia sucks the front teat, Pittsburgh gets the hind teat and the rest of us are just there to grow their food, fiber and drive them there.

Even if true, which I doubt, it doesn’t change the fact that big, liberal cities have lost tens of millions of people since the 1960s. The productive Americans have moved their families to exurbia, where there are decent schools and safe recreation. Companies have followed, creating millions of jobs because that’s where the intelligent and motivated section of Americans live. Sane businesses are not moving to cities to recruit gangsters and head bangers.
