President Trump is looking into revoking the security clearances of several top Obama-era intelligence and law enforcement officials, White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders said Monday.

During the daily press briefing, Sanders told reporters that the president was considering taking away clearances for former FBI Director James Comey, former Deputy FBI Director Andrew McCabe, former CIA Director John Brennan, former National Security Adviser Susan Rice and former Director of National Security Michael Hayden (who worked under President George W. Bush).

Fox Fake News runs the story as Trump wants to revoke security clearances for his critics, making it look like he’s doing it for purely vindictive reasons.

We need an entirely new media, and we need it a year ago.

The 10K average figure is what we were told decades ago. I think we were still using that figure when I taught at Ft. Devens in the early 80's.

A google search shows one site giving a 5 to 15 K range.

I think this is about something more than what it looks like on the surface. Not sure what, but POTUS doesn’t do anything by chance or for frivolous reasons. There is something coming down the pike on these guys.

Just another stupid insane thing the gubment does.

Why the hell do they have a clearance and get any information after they have left the jobs and gubment service?

You still have a clearance, but you no longer have a “need to know.”

Someone like Brennan would still have his access to classified material at any level, don’t you think? This was/is a crime scene with Comer, Clapper, Lynch, Clinton, Podesta brothers...etc. I believe the corruption is so deep it may never be cleaned up. I image in your day, the FBI was as it should have been.

It terrifies me that a man so openly hostile to this nation as Brennan is still getting briefings ! Mr President, your wise and courageous leadership is hugely appreciated !

Why is this even a question? All Obama Administration former appointees should have had their clearances revoked on January 20, 2017 IMO.

That kind of thing has never been done and likely never will be. If Trump is considering it now, there would have to be really solid reasons (e.g. documnented mishandling, etc)

(Hillary Clinton’s bitterness tour) By Cal Thomas.

[snip] "As with almost everything else the Clintons do, it cost to hear her bitterness. Those who went to hear Clinton speak, more than 5,000 people, paid between $200 and $500 Australian dollars (about $15 to $380 US). What they heard was criticism of President Trump and his foreign and domestic policies. Not that long ago, Americans made an effort to stop ”partisan politics at the water’s edge,’’ but no more. Especially with some Democratic politicians who seem to believe that government belongs to them and when Republicans win an election it was somehow stolen from its rightful owners."

Ms. Clinton is mentally unbalanced which is made clearer each time she speaks to an audience. The truly sad thing is, how many people were willing to cast their vote for this woman in order to keep the various fiefdoms, Obamas Socialism, Climate Change, and globalists alive, and the CGI going. Bill's a wreck, Chelsea is probably traumatized for life. All because of this demented and corrupt woman wanting to be POTUS.

Thank heavens for clear the headed people who still grace America and voted for a real American.

It is my understanding that they are able to see classified docs if presented to them. Not so sure they can just pull up anything they would like.

Why should any congressman, senator, government official, or even President, retain their security clearance after they are out of office. What would they need it for?

Given the cost and time required to get the clearance it probably makes sense for them to keep it for a while.

As others have stated, clearance doesn't mean access. They would still have to have a need to know and the party giving them the classified information would have to have a good reason.

Brennan claims that he hasn't been making any use of his clearance.

In fact Comey and McCabe both had their clearances deactivated when they left the FBI but they weren't revoked.

Many people who leave one position in government later take up another one. Maybe when administrations change or maybe they get called back to service - look at Mueller for example.

It wouldn't be practical for all of these people with knowledge and experience to have to start over at square one.

Leave aside the interest the government has in having key people flow into the employ of the defense contractors. We need experienced military and intelligence people, with their clearances, in the private sector.

If you leave the DOE your clearance is gone unless another organization requests that you keep it BEFORE you leave. If that request is not in and approved your clearance goes the minute you leave the site on your last day.

Revoking those clearances is part of draining the swamp.

No more revolving door from govt to govt contractor.
