Electronic voting systems can be susceptible to hackers, so a paper trail is needed in case of a recount, Nunes said.
"The one thing we've been warning about for many, many years on the intelligence committee is about the electronic voting systems," Nunes, R-Calif., told Hill.TV's Buck Sexton......"Those are really dangerous in my opinion, and should not be used. In California at least in the counties that I represent, they do not use an electronic system," he added.
Congress has allocated $380 million in 2018 to fund election security in the states. House Republicans voted last week 'against' including additional funding for election security grants to states in a spending bill, infuriating Democrats. Republicans argued that states already had plenty of funding from previous congressional allotments to upgrade election security.
U.S. Election Assistance Commission Commissioner Thomas Hicks told lawmakers Tuesday that about 75 percent of funding provided to states is going toward voter registration, cyber upgrades, and the purchase of new voting equipment.

The block / scan system of the same type used for tests seems good. It has a paper backup that can be counted.
Picture IDs, too.
Seems dems so concerned with voting rights would want to get behind this.
Didnt a lot of the voting machines come from a Soros company?
Yes, Diebold, but it changed its name. Soros sold his stake though but his IT guys maintained its software. He also invested heavily in GEMS, Global Election Management Systems.
But paper ballots are easily abused as well. So Nunes is only half correct here.
What ever system is used, it should be simple. In Cuyahoga County, the system is so laden with safeguards that something almost has to go wrong. Add to that absentee voting, early voting at county headquarters, multiple ID options....all in the name of fairness. I worked the polls a for second time in May. Keeping it all smoothly running and comprehensible has become impossible. It had definitely gotten more layers of activity since a year and a half ago, every layer to address some perceived problem.
Ya think we can safely say electroic voting machines are a Soros, DNC, RAT, Deep State voter fraud vehicle?
Yes. All that Russian meddling would certainly be curtailed if we got rid of electronic voting machines. I expect Dems will be on board.
Didnt a lot of the voting machines come from a Soros company?
I read that too.
Great way to do a firmware upgrade before an election and an upgrade after the election to alter and hide tampering after.
But paper ballots are easily abused as well. So Nunes is only half correct here.
Yep. Worked for disgraced former senator Al Frankenstein.
Similar to the Israel voting system where paper ballots are doubly sealed, counted 3 times by three separate groups, voter ID and strict onsite monitoring by the military should be adopted here in the US and in ALL 50 states. Ban any and all voting and vote counting machines! Then sit back and watch the democrats and their socialist policies lose.
^ This.
Optically-scanned ballots easily and cheaply scale up or down depending on anticipated turnout, unlike voting kiosks.
There is an audit trail of the original paper ballot filled out by the voter, unlike voting kiosks.
You still get electronic tabulation of votes for faster election night results, like voting kiosks.
The investment in equipment, training, and maintenance is much lower with optically scanned ballots, unlike voting kiosks.
Touch screen voting kiosks should not only no longer be purchased or funded by the federal government, they should be banned from any future use in federal elections.
Get rid of the early voting and have TWO voting days.
On the other hand, the idea that you can't make it to the polls on a single day just means you're a bad planner.
Finally, the Sun rises over Washington. It’s about time someone in that shite hole got wise and actually talks about the flippin’ obvious. Unfortunately, it is just that. Talk.
Banking systems use computers.
Voters can use computers.
JUST not the system which is currently used.
“Hill.TV’s Buck Sexton”
Sounds like this reporter could have had a previous career in another segment of the “entertainment” industry...
I agree. The old "ScanTron" method was good enough for our education system for years. It gave us a fighting chance if a machine misread an answer that was changed or a smear.
I would be on board with electronic voting if the machine provided a paper receipt of the vote. It doesn't even have to be personalized, just a piece of paper that shows the vote as tallied by the machine.
YES!!! DEMAND PAPER BALLOTS! DEMAND PHOTO I.D.! DEMAND VOTER PROOF/RECEIPT!! (Inked thumb?)
I wonder if we could apply blockchain technology to voting. The built in tracking feature could make it hard for anyone to alter a vote without leaving a telltale sign that could easily be detected.
