SHEPHERDSVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- More than 500 high-tech engineering jobs are coming to Bullitt County with the arrival of New Flyer of America.
Over the past nine months, the company has been preparing a 300,000-square-foot warehouse off Park Loop Road in Shepherdsville to house its newest manufacturing facility. On Monday, workers and executives celebrated the grand opening with a ribbon cutting and tour for city and state leaders.
This is a huge investment and a huge step for us, said Wayne Joseph, the president of New Flyer of America.
According to the companys press release, NFI Group is North Americas largest bus and coach manufacturer.
The technology thats involved in our products are state-of-the-art, and were the leader in that technology, Joseph said.
Gov. Matt Bevin toured the facility and said hes thrilled for New Flyer to pick Shepherdsville.
This is exciting not only for Bullitt County but for Kentucky, Bevin said. Its exciting for the transportation industry.
Much of what will be made at the Shepherdsville location the company used to buy from other manufacturers across the country. Now, they will be making different parts and electrical components in house.
The companys president said they were originally looking to locate in Indiana but decided on Bullitt County, because the workforce is here.
Around 100 people are working at the facility currently. The goal is to have more than 500 people employed by next year.
My vision for Kentucky is that we become the engineering and manufacturing center of excellence in the United States, Bevin said. And a company like New Flyer is the exact embodiment of that.
You can apply in person at the facility (857 Park Loop Road in Shepherdsville, Ky. 40165). Or you can submit an application online.
Actually, it does work
By citing New York, you are comparing rotten apples to fresh picked apples.
You are far far far from conservative.
Great news. But high tech?
The last time I looked KY legislate and the NY legislature were entirely different. Or did you over look that? The states mean nothing to you? Lowering taxes in KY to attract business does not mean socialism, actually it is getting government out of the way of industry.
I’m a BA in IT (since 1983) and drive right through there on my way to Louisville every single day. This is worth looking into.
Thanks for pinging me on this!
If you can OFFSHORE and OUT SOURCE to India then you can certainly can do the same by going with KY.
Canadian company - probably pushing eviro-friendly bus tech.
Oh, I know, it would probably save you a half hour or so, right?
Likely to be more ME / manufacturing oriented, but with that said, theres a lot of technology in modern vehicles. And a lot of technology in modern manufacturing.
"Much of what will be made at the Shepherdsville location the company used to buy from other manufacturers across the country. Now, they will be making different parts and electrical components in house."
Sounds like other Americans might be out of luck - good for Kentucky - but perhaps a lateral move otherwise.
And my first IT job was supposing ALCM manufacturing at Boeing.
Rush minutes every morning and afternoon
Modern manufacturing is “tech.” The days of humans mindlessly screwing the same bolt into an engine block all day are over. Robots do that. Modern manufacturing now requires a technical skill. Perhaps not engineer grade, but more than taking in anyone off the street.
Yep Canadian green for sure.
Press Release
The Shepherdsville facility furthers NFIs effort to insource part fabrication capability, and increases the companys commitment to meet increased US Content requirements under Buy America provisions of the 2015 FAST Act. The facility will immediately provide parts for the manufacture of New Flyer transit buses and MCI motor coaches, with intention to include parts for ARBOC Specialty Vehicle buses in future. Part fabrication processes in the new facility include: hose manufacture, injection molding and thermoforming plastics, metal fabrication and advanced machining, powder coating, and electrical component manufacture.
Facility build out was supported by tax incentives through the Kentucky Business Investment program. New Flyer also received resources from the Kentucky Skills Network, and worked closely with the Kentucky Economic Development and Bullitt County Economic Development teams.
It works in getting businesses to come to a location, but like planting seeds, if the ground is barren {taxes too high, regulations too onerous} the plants won't produce, and bye, bye.
In the fullness of time, that will be viewed as a blessing.
