Veteran Rep. Joseph Crowley, defeated by newcomer Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in a primary election that shocked the political world, is laying the groundwork for a comeback.
Crowley has formed a state campaign committee Joe for NY, and is holding a fundraiser Oct. 29 at the Fitzpatrick Grand Central Hotel in Manhattan, where the maximum suggested donation is $10,000.
According to an email sent to Irish Americans & Friends Crowley by Walter Swett of the firm Dynamic SRG, who is the Crowley committees campaign treasurer, the group was established to position Joe for future opportunities in public service.
Crowley was re-elected as the Queens Democratic Party chairman despite his 15-point blowout in June at the hands of socialist democrat Ocasio-Cortez, 28, in a diverse district that covers parts of Queens and The Bronx.
He served in the state Assembly before his election to Congress in 1998 and has been the Queens Democratic leader since 2006.
Sources said theres a practical reason Crowley formed a state campaign committee instead of a federal one.

No way dems back her over him. No freaking way.Hes money , she is not.
LOL
They don’t want miss stupid to win either.
Let them do a ‘write in’ like Murkowski
I love to see democraps waste money
And I hope she DOES win!
He’s still on the ballot, just as another party.. why he didn’t just keep campaigning is beyond me.. he won the district by 80%.. if he campaigned he would wipe the floor with her... not sure why he sat back and did nothing.
More important, she needs to “win” the real election first.
Yes, it is a gerrymandered, virtual certainity for any democrat to win.
But Joe Crowley (incumbent democrat) is ALSO registered as a socialist party “official” candidate (Family Workers Party or some such name) so he is still on the ticket for re-election, just not as a democrat. With the very, very low turnout in the primary (only a few tens of thousands) and with Crowley’s actual votes in the primary, he may not be “out” yet. His name is recognized locally.
She has been running nationally on the national “recognize me! I’m a Latino woman-socialist and I look pretty on TV!” ticket. That may not sell locally.
I believe the dems wanted to see if she would gain traction but she was not elected as media reports say. She was pushed in by Moveon. org. The dems Im sure put them on a leash and are telling them Joe will be the guy.
Theres an article here how Ocasio got in... the dems can plug and play anyone at anytime.

It would be funny if an (I) destroyed occasionally-rich Coachpurse.
The new lib (d) would go NUTS!!! And shut down/shut up ms. rich privileged socialist.
No! She’s not done embarrassing the party yet!
But it wasn't a blowout. Turnout was just 11%. She won the primary while getting fewer than 16,000 votes. Her margin of victory was just 5,000 votes. Most Democrats probably didn't even know there was a contested primary. Talking about the percentage difference masks the actual closeness of the race.
I have heard it was an agreement with party officials.
He will not campaign, and they will support him for some other position.
Bad link.
Crowley needs to give it up and find a new career. Guess he can milk lots of money out of people for his futile effort while he figures out what is next. I cannot image he could win any local or state office. Heck, he got beat by Ocasio-Cortez, and unemployed bartender with a Halloween-perfect face that had to scare anyone at the bar regardless of how many drinks they’ve had. And Catholic, don’t drag us into this...
I’m going to bet that the lust for Socialism runs very, very deep in that district and there’s no way she can be beat.
Joe lives in Virginia, anyway.
He paid no attention to Betty Bug-eye, and she kicked his ass.
Now he’s just looking for another suckle at the public teat.
He lost his affluent midtown and upper east side voters.

He did win twice in this district - primary and general.
Turnout in the primary was very low. He had over $3 million in his campaign chest and didn’t campaign.
Both US Senators and all the row offices are held by Democrats. It’s not clear there will be a vacancy any time soon, and even if there is, it’s not like everyone else will make room for Joe Crowley.
No, his optimal strategy was to make an effort to win the seat as 3rd party and rejoin the Democrat caucus. I think he’s toast now.
