Complaining about “tax breaks”, not subsidies.

Taxes that likely would not be collected if Amazon wasn’t there.

Bet she’d also complain if they left.

All states and cities, stop bribing businesses with our money to locate in your area.
By giving one business a “tax break” you are forcing the folks and other businesses to pay more. They will pay increased taxes so the politicians can claim they are bringing jobs to the area.

While true, also contrary to her complaint.

No, Amazon should move North of Houston to Montgomery County. I think near the Conroe Industrial Center would be better. The Republicans in the Conroe area have done a fabulous job of expanding our new highways and new schools. I was/am blessed to retire early at 46. I scoped out areas Nationwide but particularly here in North Montgomery County Texas because I saw a lot of potential. I’m 62 and been retired for 16 years now. I call back home to a Northeast city and talk to my family (brothers and sisters) all the time.
During the financial crisis in 2007-2009 when I called home I could say you wouldn’t know a crisis was going on because believe it or not we were growing.
We are still growing and the potential I still see is unlimited around here.
I have seen growth beyond belief. 10 years ago, 1488 South of Conroe was a 2 lane highway always bumper to bumper. Now it’s 5 lanes, bumper to bumper and absolutely large apartment complexes on both sides of 1488.
They’re building I think a 1000 or 2000 or more housing development North of Conroe between 830 & 1097. There is no question both of those 2 roads and 149 into Montgomery will be a 5 lane highway within a 2 or 3 years.
To be honest, I think the republicans around here have been playing catch up.
There is still a whole lot of open land around here for big big growth.

Occasional-Cortex: Amazon is a billion-dollar company. The idea that it will receive hundreds of millions of dollars in tax breaks at a time when our subway is crumbling and our communities need MORE investment, not less, is extremely concerning to residents here.

Frigging idiot. Where does she think the “hundreds of millions of dollars” is going to come from? The very entity (NYC) that is responsible for the subway crumbling.

This woman does not deserve any press.

Maybe AOC should pause in her bitching about the cost to NYC and go read this article:

Funny you said that considering the fact that NY and NYC probably have income taxes which would be paid by those workers to improve that infrastructures.

She's right to oppose it, but for the wrong reason. This is a sweetheart deal between Cuomo and Bezos. It will give Bezos more than 1 billion in tax abatements, while costing NY taxpayer 48k for each employee at the complex. Cuomo, is enamored of himself, as his drive for the presidency continues.

Queens is on Long Island, but I forgot that it was in NYC proper. That’s even worse. So Amazon thought it would be a great idea to have its employees pay city income taxes. Bezos ought to have his head examined.”

Bezos likes to be in socialist areas. He started to the south of Seattle and could have moved south to Tacoma, a more business-friendly city, but he moved north to Seattle to more easily attract employees from all over the world to clog up the traffic.

All states and cities, stop bribing businesses with our money to locate in your area.

That’s how the game is played. That way politicians get sweet consulting jobs after they leave office. That’s how almost every sports stadium works. They passed up a lot of better locations to be in DC and NYC, the power centers of America.

Amazon should return the “outrage’ by not hiring anyone from her district.

Called the alumni office screaming my head off about how the school is capitalistic not for socialists, identity politics is bs, never send me another issue and don’t ask me for another dime

I was and am fortunate that I graduated from a school of mines with a B.S. degree in geology and worked in the mining industry my entire career...which started at the age of 19 working as a tunnel miner on hydro projects.

I never would have made it through university in today’s environment.

Omg. Where do you live? I do not need to consult an encyclopedia. I have lived on long island for 62 years. Long island is a land mass. Physically queens is on that land mass. You do not hAve to cross a bridge from Nassau county to queens
The point is Amazon will be in long island city which is a neighborhood in Queens a 5 min subway ride to Manhattan. It is borough of nyc. All taxes go to NYC. Deblasio is in charge. It has nothing to do with long island which is comprised of Nassau and Suffolk counties.

I have only met one person in my life who was from queens and told people be was from long island. A boss trying to impress people in Chicago who would not know the difference.

My father and his family grew up in Queens. He never said Long Island.

Rush agreed with her and has a point. Why giving tax breaks to successful companies. What about the little guys. Lawsuit being filed. The neighborhood doesn’t want it
