Historic 'Monday Night Football' game nabs epic ratings

If you need more evidence that big scoring equals big TV ratings for the NFL then look no further than this week's "Monday Night Football."

The Los Angeles Rams 54 to 51 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs brought in a 11.3 overnight rating for ESPN. That's the best overnight rating for "Monday Night Football" since 2014.

Monday night's ratings were up more than 57% from last year's week 11 match-up, which was between the Atlanta Falcons and the Seattle Seahawks.

The Rams and Chiefs offered viewers one of the most impressive offensive displays in NFL history.

The two teams, both of which came into Monday night's game with a 9 -1 record, scored 14 touchdowns and gained over 1,000 yards combined. It's the first time in NFL history that two teams scored more than 50 points each in a game. Kansas City quarterback Patrick Mahomes had six touchdowns alone.

It was also the most combined points in a game in the nearly 50 year history of "Monday Night Football."

Real football teams have real defenses. Neither of these teams did. It was like watching a varsity offense playing against the JV scrubs.

“I will never watch any game performed by the Negro Felon League.”

Same here. I get more excitement playing Fortnite or LEague of Legends.

It’s the main problem I had with arena football. Basketball scores in football mean there’s not enough defense.

Both Rams and Chiefs exposed their weak defenses. The Saints are going to annihilate everyone in their way to the Super Bowl. The Chiefs don’t stand a chance against them if they’re going to be their opponents. I’m hoping for a Brady/Brees Super Bowl.

This was a fantastic game between 2 really good 1 loss teams.
There was some epic defensive moments showcasing the athleticism of both teams. I thoroughly enjoyed it to the end.

Precisely! The Saints defense is coming on strong making the team well balanced.

That score is reminiscent of an Arena Football score.

Where there any kneelers to the National Anthem and the US Flag?

If they stopped kneeling today, it would not reverse the NFL funding Black Lives Matter and other SJW travesties. The damage is done/being done.

No.

The entire pre-game was broadcast and it was VERY patriotic. You would approve.

All those down numbers didn’t mean anything.

One big night means everything.

And so it goes in what passes for information in the information age.

We get far less accurate information than we ever have.

What you said. I found myself surprised to be unable to stop watching, and had to stay awake clear until the end, which is way past my bedtime. It was enthralling.

I switched back and forth between the game and “Street Outlaws Memphis” with more time spent watching the drag racing. I would rather hang with the redneck racers than any NFLers.

So use the flag as toilet paper but score a lot of touchdowns. I guess America is cool with that.

Apparently so. It's sad that people care more about a children's game being played by overpaid whiners and race hustlers than they do our flag.

The defense should be able to defend against a pass when that’s the only play being run.

There’s a lot of debate on the difference between a pick and a rub route. Been a few pick penalties this year actually. But if you build your routes right (such that the defender “just happens” to bump into one of your receivers leaving another open) they’re rub routes and perfectly legal. And they’ve been in the game forever, though it does seem teams are getting better at it and doing it a lot more. Probably because 5 wide sets are basically normal now, with that many guys out in pattern it’s almost impossible not to rub.

Come on over to hockey! A goal is a big deal and still hard to achieve!

I got teary eyed watching the tribute to the slain officer. Close to home. Many people I know had connections to someone in that country bar. Who knows who’s kid was saved? He definitely saved many lives with his sacrifice. RIP.

Ironically, before the “Greatest Show on Turf” day’s in St Louis, the Rams highest scoring teams were in the early 1950s.

A goal? Getting the puck over to a teammate without an opponent cutting it off is cause for celebration!
