Except they intentionally ran over one of the citizens, which made them dangerous fleeing felons.

I live close enough to have heard the gunshots.

A “Coastal” store, for those of you who don’t have this franchise locally, is probably the last place I’d want to smash and grab.

It’s basically a mini Cabelas with some farm equipment and husbandry stuff thrown in. They sell guns, ammo, and all the fixin’s.

Pretty sure the perps will have an insanity defense just based on the stupidity of their target.

Even the legitimate use of arms in self defense can cost many thousands of dollars to defend. Not worth it in this instance, IMHO.

And did that happen before or after they were shot at?

Because the da and any prosecuting attorney could make an argument the shooters shooting at them were the cause of their dangerous driving and hitting someone while fleeing under gunfire.

"..Why ccw folks are not cops, nor should act like them.."

I musta missed where it said they were "CCW's".
All I saw was mention of two guys with guns who no police or media talked with.

But mebbe I'm geezin again, tho'. d;^)

Further, the guy who was struck was brandishing his weapon, actively engaged them when he did not have to, put himself in the middle of it, became a willing participant, tried to act like a cop.

His own actions caused the thugs to strike him with the car.

You dont go jumping into something that isnt threatening your life, voluntarily. You lose lawful protection by being a willing participant. Which is exactly why these ccw people did not stick around, they know they were willing participants and their lives were not in immediate lethal or permanent damage type of danger.

Again, not saying the law should be this way, but thats what it is. CCW people are not law enforcers and should not act like them. The last thing any of us wants tovdo is use the gun, because it only gets worse from that point on.

Fair point, the story isnt explicit on this.

At the same time it changes absolutely nothing as to what I have already said.

“... They didn’t act like cops. They hit their target,...”

hmmmm...statistically you are in greater danger from a policeman’s bullet then a criminal’s in this kind of a situation.

Now here is the reason people like Davine Tuninga should never be allowed to own firearms. These people obviously understood what the background was and fired in a safe direction. That which is intuitively obvious to people who handle firearms regularly could never be understood by such individuals.

“Davene Tuninga said, ‘I think it's good that they did that, but yet what if there would've been kids around?’”

Presenting a weapon while confronting a couple of thieves? Not a good move.

We're talking about someone that isn't bright enough to stay out of a car's direction of travel when confronting the operators. Stand to the side, folks.

Let’s see: home or business robbed and owner killed — no story. Robber shot, and front page news.

Why is that?

If there had been kids in the line of fire, the ccw holders would not have pulled the trigger.
Good people are like that.
Criminals don't care.

He has a point. The average cop spends so little time at the range that he couldn’t hit a tire on a moving car. Most cops are lousy shots.

It is called burying the lede. You have to read through most of the article to get to that little tidbit.
