"ICE officers who endorsed President Trump in 2016 now say he has failed to follow through on his get-tough promises, saying catch-and-release of immigrants living illegally in the U.S. is not only still happening, but has gone into “overdrive.”
Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers say they’re being roped into such mundane tasks as opening the doors on vans to release immigrants already caught by Border Patrol agents. That’s dragging the officers from their usual duties of nabbing fugitives, or scouring local prisons and jails for immigrant criminals who lived illegally in the U.S. ready to be deported.
The shell game is all the more “ridiculous,” the officers said, because Border Patrol agents could fill out paperwork and open the doors themselves, but the agency’s leaders don’t want to be part of catch-and-release.
“Hundreds of man hours are wasted each day at a time of crisis on the border,” the leaders of the National ICE Council, the union that represents ICE officers, said in a letter sent directly to Mr. Trump on Monday.
The letter was sent just hours before the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee voted to approve Mr. Trump’s pick, Ronald D. Vitiello, to be the new director of ICE."

I voted for Trump and I would vote for him again over any of the dem candidates. But from all accounts he is not following through on his promises to stop the illegals.That was his #1 campaign issue and he’s blowing it.

I don’t believe this for a second. There may be a few whiners blaming Trump, but he has to follow the law and most reasonable people know that.
Congress has to step up and close these loopholes.

If it weren’t for the black robed fellows on the Ninth Court who’ve seemingly decided that they are the ones to make immigration law and policies, I wonder if there would be a markedly different situation concerning all of this. The article does not seem to address that question.

This is BS. ICE has been found on numerous occasions to be overwhelmingly supportive of the President. They know he is battling the Democrats and their lefty judges.
He can’t do anything with the Democrats in control of the House, except declare a National Emergency. The mistake he made was signing the Omnibus spending bill in 2018. He should have debated wall funding then and not trusted Paul Ryan.
Trump needs to have revisited the various IMMIGRATION CONSENT AGREEMENTS that the Obama regime went into with various federal judges to get around the law and initiate DE FACTO OPEN BORDERS.
Catch & release is one of these scams.

Trump has chosen to obey court rulings on the matter.

The president is surrounded by people who don’t want to stop illegals and want more H1B visas. He has no support from the Republicans and the Republicans don’t represent their constituents. They’re giving us the finger right in our faces. Kind of like the spineless Republicans here in Colorado who just want to ‘reach across the aisle’ while licking the nuts of the chamber of Commerce.
