> Because it's implemented at the state-level, we can police our states and hold them accountable

So its ok to violate one's inalienable rights as long as the states do it ?

Regardless of legislation in question, Wayne LaPierre is bad news and an insult to the NRA. Wish Trump were in communication with better gun advocates. Praying he surrounds himself with the right people and trusts his own instincts as he does with most other things. And that God’s hand will be upon him.

Nothing he will do will satisfy everyone, but know this much: should some new tragedy or catastrophe happen on the eve of his election, he will have tough time with swing voters and if you think these proposals are bad, imagine what will be the case if a Dem enters office. So many seats in Texas alone are becoming battleground territory.

But regardless I pray he does what he believes is right, not just what is politically calculating.

Then we may as well throw in the towel now, because what he is proposing is the death of the second amendment.

I completely disagree.

The President is not responsible for telling us what the 2A means. The Supreme Court is responsible for telling us the meaning of the 2A.

If DJT is re-elected I really think he will get at least two more Justices, and maybe a third to replace Thomas. So we get two extra conservatives who have the temperament to understand the real meaning of the 2A.

I don't think we can count on Roberts when the chips are down, but re-electing Trump gives us a 6 - 1 - 2 court. A couple of well-selected cases, and the 2A is safe for a generation or more.

Go ahead, name anyone who can do better.

DJT is learning politics and political grandstanding -- I suspect nothing at all is going to make it through Congress.

This is pretty much the only way for President Trump to lose in 2020.

And you will be left with the socialist as president. Who will do far more than red flags.

I don’t need the Supreme Court to tell me what “shall not be infringed” means.

I don’t have to name anyone who can do it better. Trump needs to explain how trampling on the rights of many will protect a few. And relying on our judicial system, which long ago became politicized, and replaced the Constitution with political desires is a fool’s errand.

As Jefferson said, You won’t need the 2nd Amendment until they try to take it.

How would he explain not covering the GOP congress members who lost last year big enough to lose the House? Next year would be a repeat in the Senate. NO RED FLAG law!!!!!!

Eventually, they are going to come up with some red-flag nutcase law....where any individual under treatment will require a physician handling him to report the ‘red-flag’ person to some database, and cops will come to temporarily confiscate their weapons. All this will do, it’ll create a large segment of society who refuses mental help and we accelerate the occurrences.

I could even see people who are prescribed Oxycontin...being put on a red-flag situation.

It doesn’t fix or resolve the situation....it just creates greater conflict, and more stupid behavior that hurts all of us in the end.

Outlaw gun free zones. If guns are outlawed, only outlaws have guns. That gets people killed. Red flag laws are crap. They are only as honest a your politicians and cops.

LaPierre seems to have gone bad, and the President is getting some not-too-good advice.

Make your voices heard, folks. Red Flag is exactly that, it’s the whole head of the camel, and maybe its front hump. The nose has been there for a long time...

Loopholes will be identified as the political winds warrant. I envision an endless list being compiled as needed, when needed.

If you have a firearm that was acquired before the feds had sales tracked and you fill out a 4473 form and report the sale, viola a paper trail is laid. There’s already the trail after the feds started tracking sales. It’s a back door way to find and track more firearms. They’re from the government, they’re here to help. If you believe that, I gotta bridge for sale in St Louis.

"And you will be left with the socialist as president. Who will do far more than red flags."

That is correct, although events gin'd up by the neo-neo-Democrats could become most interesting around big cities. If suburban sophisticates want red flags, may they--men *and* women--try to cope with real red flags up close and personal. No sense in letting rural men have all of the fun.

And if aforementioned suburban sophisticates would not cotton to some fun with Democrat-driven collapse, maybe they could consider being more friendly with the original Americana of our Second Amendment.

"LaPierre seems to have gone bad, and the President is getting some not-too-good advice."

From the article:

"LaPierre told Trump that endorsing tougher background checks...would not be popular with his voter base"

Trump has been working to expand background checks for some time, as shown in the article. Now, he is pushing for a federal bill to goad the remaining states into passing red flag laws.

The NRA only said that it is okay with the adjudications of the mentally unfit that have been in the laws of the states for a long time. There's big difference between those (due process) and red flags laws (no due process).

We do need a meaningful red flag law but make it national. Otherwise we will get some states, such as California, New Jersey, etc., that will set ridiculous levels. Maybe a family with kids, kids mention guns at school, police raid and collect them just because they were mentioned. I can imagine are most anti-gun states abusing red flag laws just as they have abused the 2nd amendment to basically ban guns anyway.
