Navy secretary threatened to resign over Trump's request, but not top SEAL commander: officials [NO]

[Headline not true according to article]

Navy Secretary Richard Spencer threatened to resign if the Navy was not allowed to go through with an administrative review board next month to determine if Eddie Gallagher could remain a SEAL, multiple Navy officials confirmed to Fox News

.

Earlier Saturday, The New York Times reported that along with Spencer, Naval Special Warfare (NSW) Commander Rear Adm. Collin Green also threatened to resign if the Navy carries out the request of President Trump to restore Gallagher’s rank to chief petty officer after he was demoted last summer. Gallagher was found not guilty of murdering an Islamic State (ISIS) fighter during a 2017 deployment to Iraq but was convicted of posing for a photo with the dead corpse.

However, officials say that The Times was inaccurate in reporting that Green threatened to resign over the Gallagher disagreement. Only Spencer -- not Green -- made such a threat, they said

However, Spencer denied threatening to resign at a defense conference in Halifax, Canada, on Saturday, according to reporters present.

“I’m still here, I did not threaten to resign, we’re here to talk about external threats and Eddie Gallagher is not one of them,” Spencer said during a panel on the Arctic. Spencer told reporters he works at the pleasure of the president.

However, Spencer told reporters the president has every right to intervene in military justice proceedings.

"The president of the United States is the commander in chief, he’s involved in every aspect of government and he can make decisions and do things and give orders as he deems appropriate," he said.

Spencer said that if he receives official orders -- not in the form of a tweet -- the disciplinary process against Gallagher will cease.

Sounds more like some perfumed princes at the Pentagon started leaking rumors that the Navy Sec would resign.

After seeing the carnage holdover administrators did to the so-called “intelligence community,” kissing these brass wearing dudes good-by might not be a bad thing. They didn’t get where they are without playing nice with liberals.

That’s regardless of the merits of the Gallagher case.

Seems like a lot of people fell for the fake NYT reporting.

Also I think it’s reasonable to want an official order from POTUS on this matter. I have no problem with Trump’s tweet but the military have procedures that really should be followed.

It would be sweet if the Pres. ignored the denial and tweeted what a good idea resignation is and it’d be happily accepted.

I don’t know beans about military etiquette but imo one shouldn’t make private disagreement with one’s superior into a public disagreement. Disrespectful. Sets a very bad example.

Sounds to me like NYT trying to stir up chaos for the purpose of making the Commander in Chief appear confused, and addled.

Probably the next attack on our President will involve the 25th amendment in one way, or another. HELL! They’ve tried everything else including touching on the 25th.

It seems Spencer has his head screwed on straight.

I don’t remember Officers being required to present written orders to anyone under them when they gave them an order.
I think if I had tried this when the orderly room clerk relayed an order from the company commander, I would have been in LBJ.

As a 20 year USAF veteran, I would say, that the military procedure to follow, is, when the CIC tells them to do something, they do it, and if they can’t carry out the orders of the CIC, then they need to be fired. That’s what happened to General Singlaub, and General Douglas MacArthur. Taking their grievances to the media is generally SEVERELY frowned upon. These Obama people need to go.

Spencer said that if he receives official orders -- not in the form of a tweet

A tweet is a lawful. It is given my someone who has the authority to issue you orders, and it is to do a lawful thing in his power to order and your power to perform. If you want to send a note to SecDef asking if Trump meant it - meanwhile I am proceeding to act on it, then by all means do so. But you might get an invitation from the White House to get your lawful orders in person, and it could involve a cardboard box and the picture of your wife on your desk.
