The article states “After the shooting, dad called police and waited for them to arrive. This is so important to do for anyone involved in a defensive shooting. When police arrived he fully cooperated. After interviewing dad, the police released him without pressing charges. The shooting was determined to be a defensive action.”
I have read that the opposite is true: One should never talk to the police after such an event unless one’s attorney is present. Without an attorney present it’s your word against that of the police.
Guy could be in trouble. Deadly force defense is usually only OK when threatened with deadly force or intruding into one’s home.
I wonder what he was shooting.

I wonder how many times the restaurant called the cops on the aggressive panhandler...(since he appeared to hang in their parking lot)

And now we get to see if his local police and prosecutors are really just jack boots for deep state leftists or if they follow the US Constitution.
If this guy is charged in any way, we have found yet another totalitarian location in our country.

I think the operative word here is witnesses...cops can’t trap you if too many people would back up your story. No witnesses, keep your mouth shut until the lawyer comes.
So, did the guys just go off or was there more to the story than stated here? No doubt there are homeless and nuts out there that for no reason goes off, but this story seems to be lacking details? Kind of like a road-rage case where there is another side to the story.

Agreed. Lets hope the police stay with their conclusion of righteous self defense.
Also surveillance cameras. If the whole thing is recorded and the shooting was righteous plus there are witnesses backing up the cameras, the authorities have a hard job ahead of them prosecuting the shooter.

Why? The man was released. The police had no grounds on which to hold him.
This varies greatly by state. Texas allows the use of deadly force to retrieve property after a robbery even if the robber is fleeing, for example.
Texans are also allowed to shoot trespassers after dark. Hint: Don’t trespass after dark in Texas.
