Roughly 1,300 patients at Department of Veterans Affairs medical facilities have received hydroxychloroquine for COVID-19 since late March, according to VA Secretary Robert Wilkie.
In a letter to Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-New York, this week, Wilkie said that, between Feb. 1 and April 23, the VA purchased more than 6.3 million tablets of the antimalarial drug, which was approved by the Food and Drug Administration in late March on an emergency use basis to treat the novel coronavirus.
Hydroxychloroquine is normally used to treat lupus and rheumatoid arthritis, and the VA dispenses roughly 1 million pills of it a month for those conditions, according to Wilkie.
The secretary said the VA purchased such a vast amount to ensure that it had a sufficient supply for patients with those diseases, as well as those with COVID-19.
"During this tracked time period, VA used about 18,000 of the tablets for COVID-19, which equates to .28%," he wrote.
Wilkie's letter was a response to Schumer's request May 10 that the VA explain its bulk purchases of the medication and use to treat veterans with the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus.
Hydroxychloroquine has been widely touted as a treatment by President Donald Trump, who admitted this week that he has taken it as a prophylaxis to prevent infection.
Schumer said he and several veterans groups have concerns about the use of the medication on VA patients, many of whom are older and have underlying health conditions that make them more susceptible to the drug's most severe side effect, a disruption of regular heart rhythms.
"Veterans' groups remain deeply concerned that the VA has made large purchases of this drug and appears to have administered it to veterans despite the well-known, and in some cases, fatal risks," he wrote Wilkie.

I'm assuming that none of the 1,300 veterans did die or the number of deaths would've been the focus of the article and that all of the veterans have since recovered.

Other studies of hydroxychloroquine have shown mixed results. An ongoing study at New York University’s Grossman School of Medicine found that patients who received hydroxychloroquine, azithromycin and zinc were 44% less likely to die from COVID-19.

Seems odd that that information was buried so far into the article.
28% death rate seems awfully high. But those patients only received Hydoxy, not the entire regimen. The 22% who died were administered Hydroxy and Z-pack but not zinc.
Apparently they didn't give any patients the entire package.
And the article doesn't mention what "standard care" consisted of.
Since Trump stoked this controversy up again, he’s sitting on research or statistics showing how many tens of thousands of Americans have been saved by “his” drug. Trump is mid-troll on this right now. Chuckie took the bait.
if the 11% were given standard care- then obviously they weren’t sick enough to be put on HCQ according to the left who only give HCQ as a last resort- when the patient is so sick nothing will likely save their lives-
So it just stands to reason that less of the less sick people died- while more of the more severe cases died-
another point- how many more of those that died in them ore severely sick group would have died had they not been given HCQ which does sometimes help severely sick people survive?

The proponents of this treatment are very CLEAR:
Hydroxychloroquine + Zinc within 5 days for optimum results.
It might work later (and I pray it will) but that’s NOT the protocol.

I don’t know, The Marseille study that Dr. Didier Raoult did with over a thousands patients that had over 91% recoveries never mentioned Zinc at all, only hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) and azithromycin.

Not surprising with Schumer being involved. Twice as many dying with hydroxychloroquine compared to standard medical care should raise some red flags to higher authorities to investigate.

It was to make the point that every post needed to be reset to "normal" parameters which wasn't the case at the time.
Anecdotally its HCQ & zinc. HCQ allows the zinc - just a vitamin supplement - to enter cells and penetrate the virus - killing it. The Zpack is an antibiotic that helps out the lungs already affected but is associated with heart problems so - in my non-medical opinion only add that if the lungs are already filling up with blood. ZINC kills the virus.
High levels of CV-19 throughout the body? It just may be too late. President Trump is including ZINC in his 'scrip. Try to find that in the media.

Studies of HCQ, omitting ZINC, are worthless and obviously designed to denigrate a simple incredibly inexpensive CURE for Coronavirus 19 (CV-19 - my abbreviation).
The omission of ZINC in studies is criminal given the anecdotal evidence.

I know I said lastly already but lastly, there are reports that CV-19 has signs of insertion, not mutation, of HIV and MERS in the CV-19 genome, two very nasty viruses with no vaccine in sight.
Dr. Fauci has been working on an HIV vaccine for, oh, about, 37 years. That is all.
Except one last thing. If there ARE signs of HIV/MERS insertion in the CV-19 genome then its identifiable as WMD - a weapon of mass destruction which may plague us for years while the CCP of China comes up with another one. ;-(
