Seven lawsuits were filed against Giant Eagle on Tuesday, alleging the supermarket chains mask policy violates the Americans With Disabilities Act.
One of the plaintiffs is Nicholas Conley, of Verona, who said he was told to leave the Monroeville store on May 1 because he wasnt wearing a mask, although he had a medical excuse.
Conley shot video of the incident on his phone.
Police were called and Conley was charged with causing a disturbance and other offenses.
Conley said a Giant Eagle worker told him his medical excuse was fake.
Gov. Tom Wolf ordered masks to be worn in businesses amid the coronavirus pandemic but allowed for people with medical reasons to exempt.
Private businesses can make their own policies.
Pittsburgh's Action News 4 received a statement from a Giant Eagle spokesperson in early May, saying Conley appeared to have an agenda and people with a medical condition can have an employee shop for them, use curbside pickup or be given a courtesy mask.
Each of the seven lawsuits comes from a different plaintiff and some of the other stores named include the Allegheny Township and McKeesport locations.
Pittsburghs Action News 4 reached out to a Giant Eagle spokesperson about the lawsuits.
That spokesperson said the supermarket chain is actively reviewing the complaints and is currently unable to comment.
So dont go. Or have a note from your doc.
FFS, these people act like babies.
I’m more impressed that in a town like Pittsburgh that is overrun with Democrat Lawyers they could find some to take their cases.

Someone tell me what I’m missing here. If you can’t wear a mask to do shopping due to a medical condition, they will give you a courtesy mask? They will give a courtesy mask to someone who can’t wear the mask? Am I reading this right, or do I not under understand corporate policy language?
If we’re social distancing we don’t need the stupid masks.
These governors could be accomplices to mass illnesses from those mandated to wear the masks. . .CO2 and germ inhalation. I am sure that everyone wearing a mask is using the necessary precautions. . . Yea, right! Tell me another one. I’ve seen people throw them around, bring them down off their faces touching the mask itself and you know very well the majority don’t clean them and then there are those filters???? Are all these precautions going to be tax deductible?
Exactly. It's a private company. Shop elsewhere. Shopping in a supermarket for 30 minutes and being in contact with an infected person for 2 minutes, once a week, is not likely to make you sick. WORKING in that market for 8 hours a day and being exposed to hundreds of people every day is far riskier. Retailers have an obligation to protect their employees.
Ordinarily I would agree with you - shop somewhere else. Unfortunately, in the Pittsburgh region, Giant Eagle has a near monopoly. There aren’t a whole lot of alternatives.
YOU dont need it, but that 50 year old cashier needs you to put it on.
Either wear it or dont. A private company doesnt have to ask you mother may I?
Find a new place to shop.
#maskbabies.
Or use curbside pick-up or delivery. Giant Eagle offers delivery.
The supermarket was wrong.
The pigs were wrong.
Enough of this fascism.
It’s not a store policy it is a government policy.
It is not like he can shop somewhere else right now.
It is mandated by the government. Has nothing to do with the store.
I live in CLE and shop Giant Eagle. No mask required here.
Go read the F’n constitution. Maybe you can tell me where the “get a note from your doctor” clause is.
So the churches which sued the Oregon governor are babies, huh?
Apparently you don’t give a crap about freedom. The government was pushing this issue. The supermarket was also wrong for incorrectly enforcing an unconstitutional order. The police were wrong with enforcing an unconstitutional order. This type of actions and thinking has ruined America.
I happen to like Giant Eagle (4 within a 10 mile radius) the best because of their curbside pickup service which allows you the opportunity to totally avoid jerks of this nature.
