NYT/Siena Polls: Trump Losing Ground with White Voters in Swing States, Not Gaining with Minorities
Breitbart ^ | 27 Jun 2020 | John Binder

President Trump has lost ground with his base of voter support, white Americans, in swing states while not increasing his support with Hispanic and black Americans, New York Times/Siena College polls show.

The polls of six battleground states, released this week, come as racial tensions have swept the nation with the Black Lives Matter movement leading riots, protests, and the destruction of historical monuments in major cities.

Conservative circles have speculated that voters may not be expressing their actual opinions to pollsters.

Trump’s administration has been laser-focused on messaging specifically to black Americans, with daily social media posts from the president, the Republican National Committee (RNC), and the White House.

“We did criminal justice reform. Nobody thought it was possible to get it done, I got it done,” Trump said in a recent interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity, referring to the First Step Act.

In other posts, the RNC has slammed Democrat presidential nominee Joe Biden for his support of anti-crime legislation in the late 1980s and 1990s.

“Biden claims to help black Americans— but his record on crime led to mass incarceration,” the RNC wrote in an online post. “In 1986, Biden pushed the Anti-Drug Abuse Act — which established racial disparity in sentencing. The bill shifted the federal release program ‘from a rehabilitative focus to a punitive one.'”

Despite the aggressive campaign, the polls show little-to-no movement among minority voters switching from Biden to Trump, the Times reports:

Over all in the battlegrounds, Mr. Biden leads among black voters by 83 percent to 7 percent, up only slightly from October. Hispanic voters back Mr. Biden by 62-26, also essentially unchanged. Neither lead exceeds Mrs. Clinton’s margin in the final polls from 2016. [Emphasis added]

At the same time, the polls show Trump losing significant ground

Ad-spending-wise, Trump is trying to curry favor with a demographic - blacks - that won't vote for him in any numbers, while neglecting his swing state white base. Javanka's strategy of letting black drug felons of federal prison never made any sense then, before the recent riots, and it definitely doesn't make any sense today. For some reason, Trump's blaming Brad Parscale for running a bad campaign, when he should be ignoring his daughter's and son-in-law's advice. While it's great that they're not on the payroll, sometimes free is more expensive than paying for advice.

Katie Walsh:

- Rabid Never Trumper who hates @realDonaldTrump
- Mocks his base
- Deserted 2016 campaign
- Brought into WH by Priebus (was his RNC deputy)
- Fired from WH for leaking
- Now running most of campaign behind the scenes, protected by Jared and Parscale

A logical question. If the racial unrest is costing Trump white support, why is he not also losing minority support?

I’m sure Trump’s support among “swing voters” has been shaken by the media onslaught, but still this poll sounds like wishful liberal thinking.

Lots of time for Trump to shore up support.

Is Trump really so boorish that lots of voters would prefer a half-senile dude campaigning from his friggin’ basement?

***Pew Research shows White House is more accurate!

27 Jun: NYT: On Coronavirus, Americans Still Trust the Experts
But that trust may be tested in the months ahead.
By Margot Sanger-Katz; Sabrina Tavernise contributed reporting.
But a New York Times/Siena College survey shows a large majority of American registered voters quietly trust the advice of medical experts.
“I think there’s too much pessimism about American trust in science,” said Elizabeth Suhay, an associate professor of government at American University...

The poll shows that large majorities across the partisan divide trust medical scientists and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, though Democrats are more trusting than Republicans over all...

Jonathon Ferguson, a real estate agent in Central Michigan and self-described conservative, says he has conservative friends who have resisted public health measures as infringements of their rights. But he has largely supported the actions of his governor, Gretchen Whitmer, a Democrat who imposed control measures over the objections of the president...

***Pew research has shown that people who rely on the White House for information on the virus tend to think the disease and pandemic are less dangerous than people who get their news from the national or local news media...

And, consistent with other surveys, trust in the news media is low, especially among Republicans. Only 7 percent of Republicans say they trust the national news media to provide accurate information about the virus. That could be a problem, since far more Americans are learning about the pandemic from news reports than from their personal doctor or the C.D.C. website...

So, anarchy is gaining support among the populace?

This is pure propaganda.

Why does the media keep talking about Trump’s declining popularity? It is just wishful thinking.

Biden, in obvious, advanced dementia, and being kept in the basement because he babbles incoherently, is really picking up steam as a presidential candidate?

I have never seen gaslighting of the public to this extent.

Polls are all BS!

Most accurate poll is the votes! Does this look like TRUMP has lost ground with anyone??

This is with every damn Primary TRUMP was in! Around 92% or higher Republican support! So WTF is TRUMP losing ground to??

Oh yea, this NH Primary is with only 87% reporting!!!!!!

The American voters may be upset with Trump because he has not cracked down harder on fake news and racist BLM rioters.

The polls got it wrong four years ago and are understating his support now.

But the fact is Trump has been hurt by all the crap that has happened in the last few months. He needs to get his s#!t together for the fall election. Sparring with the White House press corps won't cut it.

They are comparing actual voters from exit polls to registered voters. Of course Trump numbers go down.

agree-Trump was ahead in the betting odds,( more predictive than polls) through impeachment and everything see https://www.realclearpolitics.com/elections/betting_odds/2020_president/ until he started the combative stuff and the “shoot don’t loot” tweets- get new campaign manager now!

This reminds me of 2016... Trump doesn't stand a chance of winning. It's impossible for him to win because the NY Slimes and most media outlets have declared him 'dead' on arrival... He's not electable because Hillary Biden is loved and adored by everyone.

He's definitely got to consider amping up the sniping of Biden and the 'Rats and their complicity in this latest round of insurrection. I'm not saying blow the whole wad right now. Save that for the homestretch. But

we're in the backstretch and its time to start jockeying for position for the final run. That means framing the issues in our favor, moving the needle over from defense to offense and taking the fight to the 'Rats and Biden.

If it were me I'd really draw the contrast between a man who builds things and employs people in real jobs as opposed to a man who is the epitome of DC insider. Biden spent 38 years in the Senate and eight as VP and basically did nothing other than cheerlead for other swamp creatures.

The polls got it wrong four years ago and are understating his support now.

When oh when are we going to stop thumbsucking to make ourselves feel better by repeating the myth that the polls were wrong 4 years ago?

The polls were right 4 years ago.

This thumbsucking is dangerous and it diverts focus from the job of actually winning the election. If you do not recognize what is wrong you cannot possibly fix it and clearly if you do not acknowledge that anything is wrong you cannot fix it.
