Right or wrong the game is too long and slow for the modern mind and life.
Playing seven-inning games isn't going to fix that. So you have a seven-inning boring game instead of a nine-inning boring game. Why not save everyone the boredom and play a ZERO-inning game? Just have a three-hour batting practice and call it a day.
If I was managing a visiting team I’d seriously think of intentionally walking the leadoff hitter in the bottom half of an extra inning — especially if my team didn’t score any runs in the top half of the inning. This would improve the odds of getting a ground-ball double play even if the runner on second moves over to third with two outs.
Thats why my post also included:
Granted, the home team gets to bat in the bottom of the 10th, but the visitor runs may have already been scored.
And yes, we all understand home field advantage.
Baseball could go the route of football and have completely separate teams for offense and defense. Basketball changes more or less instantly between offense and defense so it's not practical there. But it is for baseball, not that I'm advocating it. The designated hitter rule is a cross between having everyone play both offense and defense and platoon baseball.
Baseball hardly “thrived” from 1873 to 1973. The average attendance at an MLB game didn’t surpass the 20,000 mark until 1979. It was below 9,000 per game before 1946 — which is an awful figure when you consider that TV revenue was almost non-existent in that era.
Creating the force on 2nd & 3rd would be the right strategy. The runner on 1st means nothing except a possibility of an out.
This is what had me confused. This part of your post completely contradicted your initial statement that the visiting team would have an advantage in extra innings.
Judging by my neighborhood, Cricket may soon be overtaking Baseball, with all the Indians living here.
It's almost getting to that point already. The game has become so heavily dominated by home runs and strikeouts that defensive play in the field is rapidly losing its importance in the game. There's almost no downside these days to filling your lineup with nine designated hitters and putting eight of them on the field in positions they're barely capable of playing.
Make it so complicated no one can understand it (just like our government). Now that’s the ticket!
MLB is BLM backwards?

LOL! Two sides of the same coin?
The new rule provides no additional advantage to the home team.
LOL! Ballpark food may have to change.
Why even bother calling them Leagues any more? They are conferences, now. Ugh.

Its looking like the anarchy wave is creeping into sports. Pro sports reflecting society. LOL
Right. The advantage is the same as it's always been.

I agree. I actually don't think it ever will. I hope I'm wrong but I have been saying for some time now professional spectator sports in general has been destroyed, they just don't realize it yet.
Screw them all.
Will there be mandatory kneeling by players in between innings? Major league pandering.
I hate overtime/extra innings.
If you can’t resolve it in the alloted period, then it’s a tie.
I never thought winning a game in overtime/extra innings should count as much as a win in regulation.
