Many fine things will return after The Revolution fails. Not before.
At the risk of stating the obvious pro sports has become highly politicized — and monetized. That’s a complete turnoff for most people who just want to watch a pleasant diversion from their daily lives. Moreover, the commercial intrusion into every facet of these sports and the obscene salaries of its participants are reaching the point of being intolerable to watch or support.
I won’t miss any of it. There are much better, more productive and enjoyable things to do with my time.
And he would be thrown out like ninety percent of the time! There is a lot more to stealing a base than just speed.
Time limits (if possible) between pitches
Like in Little League, if we jacked around too much at the plate the ump would say “Cmon, Batter”
I like the DH on both sides. Pitchers batting bores me
Golf should use carts . . . for at least the early holes, esp in the latter rounds.
As a Braves Fan (yeah! We are keeping the name) I love of these changes.
I am tired of watching inning killing pitchers make the games take longer because they can’t hit. And putting someone on second in extra innings is great. No more 18 inning games into the morning.

As an old fart baseball rules “purist” I admit I like the runner on second extra inning rule. It is used in the minors. I have coached with the rule in youth baseball. I find it does speed up the conclusion of the game and actually put the use of strategy in play.
‘Baseball hardly thrived from 1873 to 1973.’
but yet it managed to become the ‘national pastime’ by all accounts...
‘It was below 9,000 per game before 1946 which is an awful figure when you consider that TV revenue was almost non-existent in that era.’
I’m sure you’re aware that until the late 1930’s baseball was strictly an afternoon thing; you know, when most serious fans of the game were out making livings...to say nothing of the much smaller populations until the 1950’s...

Thats the word.
But everyone paid attention, including kids
We collected Topps cards. Ruined our teeth with that super sugary bubble gum.
Listened to most games on the radio and watched the few televised ones
Baseball was the only game that mattered. And we all played it too, LL or sandlot.
I can barely name manes of today’s players. Back then, we all knew everybody, at least in the hometown team’s league
I did a quick search on the German Bundesliga standings from 2019-20. RB Leipzig played 34 games and finished with a record of 18-4 with 12 ties. If more than a third of your games end in a tie, you shouldn't even be allowed to play anymore.
Interestingly, MLB's all-time stolen base leader Rickey Henderson used to say he found it easier to steal third than second -- probably because nobody is holding the runner on, which means the runner can get a bigger lead from second than from first.
How does pitchers not hitting make the games take longer? In baseball, generally more offense equals longer innings, more pitching changes, and longer games.
It will be interesting to see if the mandatory three batter minimum/end of inning limit for relief pitching ends up making the games longer or shorter.

I think at one time baseball games were allowed to end in ties. But I think that was back in the days before stadiums had lights and games were called due to darkness sometimes.
If I recall correctly it was in 1974 that the NFL started playing overtime in regular season games which were tied.
NFL games can still end in a tie if the score is tied at the end of the overtime. But very few NFL games end in ties nowadays.
There seems to be a strong desire on the part of people who Run Sports to avoid ties. I don’t follow hockey but I understand the NHL used to have many tie games before they implemented their overtime rules to try to break ties.
Death before DH!
I mean it. I will watch my Braves again once they dump the Designated Hitter...and not before.

Very true. It kind of makes me wonder what the big-league owners were thinking when they set up their schedules that way.
It really does expose some of the major flaws in baseball as a big-time sport. It's always been geared toward a crowd of elderly retirees who would otherwise be out playing checkers in the park on a nice summer day -- and that is reflected in the pace of the game.
Exactly. As entertainment options expanded, baseball has come out on the losing end more and more often.
With more offense you have more runners on base, more runs scored, longer innings, and better hitters running deep into the count more frequently. These all add up to making the game longer.
I wasnt familiar with the term. It was an aha moment for me at 18 Across.
