I agree. The best thing the Feds can do at this point is monitor the situation, identify the culprits and build up Federal charges. Start with the out-of-towners - easiest cases to build.
But state authorties, or county authorites, or city authorties are not accusing them of federal crimes and releasing them the next day. That’s why OHP can arrest, detain and hand them straight over to federal authortities.

Why do you think Trump and his people have not done this yet? Tensions are really building and IMHO holding off may be losing him some support.

‘Cuz Trump is WAAAAAAY smarter than we are and listens to his advisers.
The burning cities would not support the Guard. In fact they would act against the NG, making it a lot like occupying hostile territory. So there would be bad optics AND little or nothing would be accomplished.
This is, in fact, what the Democrats are trying to provoke. Since they are not getting it, they are trying to say that Trump is doing nothing and not helping the cities.
What President Trump IS doing is having the US Marshals deputize local law enforcement, turning them into Federal Officers, which means that arrestees can end up in Federal Court on Federal Charges going around the local DAs who are actively helping the terrorists.
Never doubt President Trump.
