Japan is doing just fine. They have decided to use automation rather than immigration to meet their needs. Japan is still the third largest economy in the world. Japanese are fourth in the world in terms of life expectancy with 84.65. The US is 46th with 80.43.

Japan still maintains a national identity. Diversity is not a strength.

Ethnic groups

Japanese 98.1%, Chinese 0.5%, Korean 0.4%, other 1% (includes Filipino, Vietnamese, and Brazilian) (2016 est.)

Nothing is a better sign of civilizations strength than a population that is willing to have children.

Do you want us to have a population of over a billion like China and India? Does quality of life enter into your equation of a civilization's strength? Less can be more in terms of population.

We are no where close to a death spiral. We are the third most populous nation on earth.

Take a look at the countries with the highest birth rates in the world. The first 12 are in Africa led by Niger, Angola, Mali, Uganda, and Benin.

And you want the government to subsidize them. Don't be a Democrat.

But more importantly, why not? Families all over the country from all economic spectrums do it. For many it is a real sacrifice but they make it because it's important to them. If you want the government to do it for you then it must not be all that important to you.

The is nothing like the small mindedness of freepers as they ride their own particular hobby horse.

So I've noticed.

the government?

No.

Just stop the GOVERNMENT from taking school tax monies from homeschooling or private schooling people.

Make no assumptions

I'm a single person, no children. Why am I paying school taxes? And even if I did have kids I would never send them to University of Missouri. Why am I taxed to support them?

Personally, I think it is ridiculous.

However since people who have children pay dearly to raise them, they need not to be paying to raise other’s children.

You haven’t paid social costs of children so I guess you are supposed to educate them

Which I do, by paying taxes that fund public schools. If you want to educate your kids at home or in a private school then you're free to do so but you're on you own in paying for it.

And I suppose you're happy to pay for your own police and fire protection but not anybody else's protection to. Complain all you want but you're going to pay school taxes. Your choice then becomes whether you also pay for your child's private school protection or whether you use public schools.

well school is the issue we are discussing

I kick in to pay for fire police and roads. Everyone does and benefits.

Schools are different, I pay for me and mine. Other parents should pay for theirs. Perhaps the childless should kick in for the social benefit.

Actually we're talking about Star Parker's article where she claims it's about values and not economics. You've made it clear that the deciding factor on whether to out of public schools and into religious schools, where they can learn values that sustain life is economic. You'll send them to a school that teaches your values only if the government makes it worth your while.

But we bring in 1.1 million legal permanent immigrants a year along with hundreds of thousands of illegal aliens. Each year 300,000 children are born to illegal aliens.

The US has a net population growth of 0.7% (2021), which works out to 2.2 million a year. I suspect the number is greater if we factor in the number of illegal aliens who cross undetected. Mass immigration more than makes up the deficit caused by lower fertility rates.

Your concern should be the destruction of the nuclear American family. 40% of births are out of wedlock. 73% of blacks are born out of wedlock.

Again, the US is not facing a demographic catastrophe. Our population continues to grow. Quality of life is an issue. Our social welfare net is stressed and our cities are decaying with increased crime, lousy schools, and high unemployment.

Abortion kills tens of thousands annually. Blacks have the highest abortion rates. Without abortion, the black population would be double what it is today, i.e., 90 million instead of the current 45 million.

I agree this is not about economic prosperity or the lack thereof.

However, this is a long term demographic trend in all developed countries in Europe, Asia and the Western Hemisphere. It began in Britain and France toward the end of the 19th Century. There is a strong association between large population growth and the beginning of industrialization. But, as a country's development matures, birth rates begin to decline. They may temporarily increase as with the Post-WWII Baby Boom, but the long term trend is always down. Nothing any country has tried has reversed the long term trend. Rates have dropped so far in some countries that they are now facing overall population reduction.

The US is fortunate that we have been on the tail end of this trend, but we're in it as well. China really screwed the pooch. By forcing the downward trend to begin prematurely, they put their population into decline before fully developing, so they are unlikely ever to reach that stage.

All true...but relying on immigration to raise population is bad. In the long run we need to hit 2.1 or greater TFR every year.

Mass immigration is worse than less than replacement rates. Population decline is not in and of itself bad. We don’t need 500 million to a billion people. With our national debt approaching $30 trillion and our entitlement programs representing an $100 trillion unfunded liability, we need to consider how an ever increasing aging population coupled with longer life spans will impact our future.

Again, we don’t have a population problem in terms of having enough people. The hype about lower than replacement level birth rates is meant to convince the US public that we need to raise immigration levels and import more foreign guest workers. The Dems, MSM, Big Tech, and the global corporatists are behind it. They want to continue to have access to an inexhaustible supply of cheap labor.

They are screwing the American worker and the middle class. It is the reason why real wages have stagnated for almost 50 years. If we had a shortage of labor, wages would be going up, not down or stagnating.

A demographic death spiral happens when there are too many people older than working age and they receive entitlements. Younger people leave rather than fund a bunch of seniors. Avoiding an aging population is the only way to stop a demographic death spiral.

We are not in a demographic death spiral. The median age in the US is 38.5, which is 61st in the world. China is 38.4, which is 62nd in the world. India is 28.7, 141st.

The total fertility rate in the US is 1.84. In China, it is 1.6. Do you think China is in a demographic death spiral? China is still growing at .26% a year compared to our .7%. China has 1.4 billion people. We have 332 million.
