Ireland sets EU precedent on Israeli 'annexation'

Ireland has become the first EU country to formally designate Israeli settlement expansion as “annexation” of Palestinian land.

The Irish parliament, the Dáil, said so in a motion passed unanimously on Wednesday (26 May).

“The scale, pace, and strategic nature of Israel’s actions on settlement expansion and the intent behind it have brought us to a point where we need to be honest about what is actually happening on the ground … it is de facto annexation,” Irish foreign minister Simon Coveney also told MPs in a debate on Tuesday prior to voting.

“This is not something that I, or … this house, says lightly. We are the first EU state to do so,” he said.

“But it reflects the huge concern we have about the intent of the actions and, of course, their impact,” he added. […]

“Tonight’s decision … is historic, Ireland is the first country to state that. We need to use that mandate to hold Israel to account for their crimes,” John Brady, an MP from Ireland’s nationalist Sinn Féin party, which tabled the motion, also said on Wednesday.

It “must mark new assertive, consistent confrontation of Israeli crimes against Palestine,” Mary Lou McDonald, another Sinn Féin MP, added.

But the Dáil scrapped an amendment calling for Ireland to expel Israeli diplomats by 87 to 46 votes. …

Not the same Ireland I lived in during the 70s and early 80s, for sure.

Obviously St. Patrick didn’t drive quite all the snakes out of Ireland. Or was that Scotland? Or is there a difference?

A number of the people who fought with the IRA were out-and-out communists.

Also, I can see where a country like Ireland that had a chunk of it annexed by England would be sensitive to the Palestinian case.

It would be really nice if Israel basically admitted that since they have no peace treaty with many of the countries that went to war with them in the 60's and 70's that they are still technically at war. Then they can claim the West Bank as spoils of war. They seem to have done that already with the Golan Heights.

I don’t get it.

Is it the old “glory days” of Jerry Adams, the IRA-PLO connection?

What is it about Ireland that makes them so anti-Semitic-Israel? I mean both peoples love corned beef and cabbage.

Where is Ireland’s condemnation of Turkey’s occupation of northern Cyprus, China’s occupation of Tibet, human rights in Syria, Iran, China, North Korea, Russia???

The Jews are claiming their country back, but just a few decades after the Irish did.

Aside from their self-serving low corporate-tax regime, the Republic of Ireland is a nearly monolithic, doctrinaire leftist nation. Their popular referenda embracing sodomite “marriage” and abortion on demand were utterly disgraceful.

Ireland did not do this, the ruling elite in Ireland did this. Same is true in the US, the corrupt Leftist Democrat ruling elite is stabbing Israel in the back. This is all so evil.

It’s interesting. Imagine a country where the political spectrum ranges from bomb-throwing leftists on the left to corrupt corporately owned leftists on the right. Imagine a USA where the spectrum ran from Ilhan Omar to Nancy Pelosi/Joe Biden... and ended there. That’s Ireland.

“Conservatives” simply don’t exist in Ireland in the sense that they exist in the U.S. and continental Europe. There is no true right wing.

This Irish guy is full of ______. He doesn’t have any idea of what he’s talking about. He is certainly a libtard, shooting off his mouth and attributing motives which don’t exist. The land of Israel was given to the Jews by G-d. There were no “Palescumians” existing, there is no “Palescumian people”. They are a construct of made up words.

How would their own land be “spoils of war”?

Also, it’s Judea-Samaria rather than “West Bank”.

The Irish are sympathizing with the imperialists here, those being Ottoman revanchists who seek “pan-Arabism”. And they are fine with the EU “colonizing” Ireland. England’s claim on Ireland under Henry II was originally validated by Pope Adrian IV and held up by his successor Pope Alexander III, BTW.

One day they’ll be talking about “the European stain”.

Geographically, yes. Scotland, aka Alba (once known as Albany) is essentially the northern half of the island of Britain. Scots Gaelic and Irish languages are very similar although not quite mutually intelligible. Also, the patron saint of Scotland is St. Andrew (the Apostle).

Sin Fein is a Marxist party, the arm of the terrorist IRA. They have always been anti-Israel and anti-Semitic.

Time for all Jews to boycott Ireland and any of their products.
