Parkland father Fred Guttenberg, an outspoken gun control proponent, claims Madison County, North Carolina’s, plan to have AR-15s for classroom defense is “absolute insanity.”
Guttenberg lost his daughter, 14-year-old Jaime, in the February 14, 2018, Parkland high school attack, in which the attacker faced zero armed resistance.
There have been other high-profile school shootings since Parkland in which the attackers have also had time to carry out their heinous deeds without armed resistance. On August 6, 2022, Breitbart News reported that North Carolina’s Madison County Sheriff Buddy Harwood announced he was taking steps to be sure his school officers were ready, and one of those steps meant being sure there was an AR-15 in every county school for classroom defense.

Being a Parkland father does not make you an expert in anything.
Why isn’t this man speaking out against the Democrats that stood by and allowed the shooting to take place?
Freddy needs to shut it.
Poor Jamie deserved a better, smarter father. The dumb SOB is incapable of learning even the simplest lesson that a first grader would have no trouble understanding. I feel sorry for her on so many levels.
There used to be frequent terrorist attacks on Israeli schools. Haven’t heard of an attack in over a decade. At some point the Israelis started arming teachers and I’ve often seen photos of cute young women helping small children put their clothing on while having a carbine slung over their backside. So, what is this guy afraid of? Possibly that the gun will just suddenly discharge? How often does that happen?
I live in the area and this guy is a jerk. Only listen to Andrew Pollack...and he moved out of Broward county.
I remember Ann Coulter’s biting remark re: the 9/11 widows who bonded to form an activist unit—”I’ve never seen people enjoy their husbands’ deaths so much”.
A little harsh but it is weird when someone launches a cottage industry from a relative’s death.
Why not just equip all of the teachers with 'strongly worded'
"Request That You Stop Shooting - and Be Happy" cards.
Have Hallmark make 'em up.
That should work just fine.
Or just hand out bags of peanuts....

The school defense needs to begin in the hallways and school rooms, at the very moment the threat emerges.
A school cop showing up with a AR five or ten minutes after the shooter is barricaded inside a classroom is as useless as the Uvalde PD.
Exactly. See #10.
Apparently the local Walmart was out of Nerf Guns.
He’s a committed comrade from NY - Vpered!
That — and the teachers should wear “Gun Free Zone” t-shirts. And put similar stickers on their classroom doors. Problem solved!
The "Absolute Insanity" is (literally) having a society with free-range crazy people.
(Thank the lawyers and the politicians.)
I worked in Israel twice. It is not uncommon to see young girls, 17-20 years old, in military garb standing on the street corner holding an automatic weapon. When I was there you could hardly walk a block down the street in Tel Aviv without seeing several.
Especially when his prior experience is selling cars and homes. The guy is a member of the group that turned Broward County into what it now is; Transplanted New York. I grew up in that area. Parkland was nothing but dirt roads and homes on small acreage. We spent our summers hiding our horses all over the area. Those days are long gone - not only for Parkland but for Broward County, as well.
I'll never understand the people who visit an area, fall in love with it, buy property and then proceed to change it into something that bears no resemblance to the place it was when they first saw it.
This short message is the key to unlocking Mr. Guttenberg's personal response to tragedy. Mr. Biden spent years lying about the accident that took his wife. He accused an honest man of drunk driving when that was not the case. Biden martyred himself as his best effort to increase his self worth in the face of unutterable tragedy. I fear Mt Guttenberg has done the same. His incessant demand that the conditions leading to his daughter's death be played out again and again is true madness. Preventing the death of children ought to be his prescription. Instead he insists that more children must die for more people to learn the lesson of his pain.
A very wounded and hurt person over the loss of a loved one.
Those left behind after such a tragedy can go crazy that doesn’t mean the rest of us have to go nuts and ban firearms.
I agree.
The school officers should have shotguns
