The fast lane is a privilege, not a right.

Works well in places like Germany. Amazing how fast they can come up on you if you linger too long in the fast lane.

Left lane vigilantes gotta go.

And also the generally inconsiderate jerks.

All states should be as committed to getting slow pacers out of the left lane as they are to speed tickets. Idiots who get in the left lane and pace the cars to the right of them are the cause of at least as many accidents as speeders. It doesn’t matter if you’re doing the speed limit - if you’re not a member of the highway patrol, move to the right and let people who want to go faster get by.

Usually oblivious, cautious drivers or someone on their phone.
How about $25 plus $75 for being on the phone?

Good grief. We are all guilty of something, lets just codify it so we can collect the penalty fees.

I try to be courteous and only drive in the let lane if I am passing other traffic. There are exceptions, i.e. if the right lane has a pot hole every 50 ft, and the left does not, I’m driving where its smoother. I’ll move right if I see you coming up behind me.

But a law now arbitrarily (in a troopers mind) setting a lower speed limit in the left lane, when many use the left lane to drive anywhere from 10 to 30 over the limit, puts the average driver in a quandary. Whats too fast or too slow when the general traffic is is doing 85 in a 65 or 90 in a 70?

And use the right most lane as well. Many times I see the right lane empty or almost empty.

Let’s use correct terminology here...
It’s not a fast lane, it’s a passing lane.
If you are not passing traffic, you got no business being there.
Period.
End of discussion.

An acquaintance of mine who teaches Drivers Ed once said that he teaches this about left-lane driving: if the traffic is passing you on your right side, you are in the wrong lane; move to the right when safe to do so.

He didn’t mention that if the drivers on the right are shaking their fists at you or throwing empty soda cans at your car as they go by, you may be in the wrong lane.

It requires drivers in the left lane to move over if a car comes up behind them and the right lane is clear.

They must forget to teach this in driving class or permit tests. Keep right except to pass, then move back over.

“Whats too fast or too slow when the general traffic is is doing 85 in a 65 or 90 in a 70?”

The safest and most efficient speed to drive is the speed of the general traffic.

Double the fine if their left-turn signal is on.

The big question is whether SC is one of those idiot states that demand differential speeds for passenger cars and semi trucks. If you try to stay in the right lane, you are constantly having to get into the fast lane to dodge trucks, when keeping to speed limits, rather than simply keeping up with traffic.

Yes, true in most scenarios.

I dont disagree, but I didnt need another law to be used against me if I didnt think that speed was appropriate at the moment.
