James Madison University's debate team says that "free speech should not extend to requiring us to platform or amplify ideas that are exclusionary, discriminatory, or hostile."
This week, the James Madison University debate team made a surprising announcement for, well, a debate team.
The group condemned an upcoming speech on "transgenderism" by conservative commentator Liz Wheeler, arguing that she is "attempting to antagonize and harass highly at-risk groups like transgender students" and calling on the student group sponsoring the event to revoke their support. While there is a lot to criticize about Wheeler's position on transgender people, it's nonetheless troubling that a student group devoted to debate and "free speech" would so fiercely call for the cancellation of an event based purely on a speaker's political beliefs.
Wheeler's event, hosted by JMU's chapter of Young Americans for Freedom (YAF), is set to take place on April 26. The lecture, which has already had to move location due to security concerns, will focus on "the ideology of transgenderism," according to the chapter's social media posts. Soon after the event was announced, many took to social media to express their disapproval and get the university administration to cancel the event.

What, exactly, is "there to criticize" about Wheeler's position?
If someone thinks these transnitwits are at risk because people don’t accept or go along with their crazy then they are crazy too.

The only debate allowed is a one covering the entire political spectrum from Marxism to Leninism. Trotskyists will get ice axed and when Stalinism is the topic next year both teams will be timed on how long they can speak in favor of it. Loser gers killed.

I am old enough to remember when the left used freedom of speech to muscle their way into the public debate square by stating back in the 70’s and 80’s “I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it”
But now that they feel they have the majority they are moving to shut down all speech that disagrees with them.
Generally, the liberals and leftists set themselves up, as arbiters of what is acceptable. Then they shut down debate and discussion of anything which offends their sensibilities.
The transgender issues here are a good example of what they do. They find it so outrageous that anyone would have any discussion or disagreement, so they declare the entire subject to be off limits for discussion. Then the default position becomes that everyone is all in with transgender surgeries and all the rest of it
I sometimes think about how there often used to be public square debates, whether it was debate specials on PBS or debates among political commentators of different parties. High school debate teams appeared on local TV.

Hey y’all!! Madison Equality is still looking for submissions of poetry, skits, songs, etc. and/or performers for LHA (Live Homosexual Acts). You don’t have to perform the piece you submit, and we have submissions for those that want to perform but don’t have a piece to submit. There will also be a queer friendly sex toy give away prize for a performer that enters in the give away.

Seems like a justified response to their lies and misrepresentations that the perverts should be aware of. Too bad, so sad if it happens to them.
Good debate teams are supposed to debate any subject, including taking positions that they do not agree with.
But when it comes to LGBT/ “nonbinary”, any conservative position is treated like Nazism, and “debaters” won’t touch it!!!!
